The Bearkats finally got to play some real football Thursday morning at Bowers Stadium when they practiced for the first time in full pads.
After going through some offensive and defensive position drills, the two came together halfway through practice for some live action. Both sides came up with some big plays, and Sam Houston State looked to be right on par with where it needs to be as the first week of summer workouts nears the end.
“I thought the guys had a great day. They had a lot of energy and played fast,” Bearkats head coach Todd Whitten said. “We worked different situations, and it was easier to see where we are at as a team. We will be in pads pretty much from here on out, and we will have just a little bit of speed work as a team like we did toward the end today.
“We can finally began to grade and evaluate the guys and get things in order for the start of the season.”
