This isn't the appropriate forum, but I still refer to the man as "The Messiah".
"Elaine, you're from Baltimore, right?"
"Yes, well, Towson actually."

Why not he got his start in college football at this level.

That was back in the good ole days when Frank Herzog would say "Touchdown, Washington Redskins" when they scored. And they sure did a lot of scoring that day.

Did I-AA exist in the early 70's?

Interesting that in 1974, Joe Gilliam started 6 games for the Pittsburgh Steelers. Terry Bradshaw finished the season and was the starter in the Super Bowl. Gilliam still got a ring.

I'm assuming he was still on the team. Everyone in the organization gets a ring. Why so interesting? Did you think only starters get a ring?

Did I-AA exist in the early 70's?
Nope. 1978 & it was very small at that point in time.

Doug Williams graduated before then, right? I seem to barely remember seeing him in those ugly creamsicle and red uniforms in 76-77. I mean I was really young, but I loved watching the NFL back then.

Interesting that Gilliam was close to doing what Doug Williams did. Just lost his starting job during the season.

No.
Not for the NFL. Maybe for a college team most assumed didn't exist.

Yes FAMU won in '78 the only HBCU to win the national title.

Howard in ‘93 was close???? I know that personally. My roommate, our LT played in the Magnolia Bowl with several HU players. They all told him we would have beat Marshall.

Jay Walker was the starting QB on those HU squads.
