2019 Schedules

12 game year! Should be a good year financially for McNeese and I think they hit a sweet spot in non conference scheduling given where they're at and with a new head coach. They open hosting Southern U. Overflow crowd virtually certain. Then on the road at Oklahoma State. Should be a nice playday. Then hosting Alcorn State. Should be another good crowd. Also there's some interest in playing the two teams that played for the 2018 SWAC championship.

I wish they were playing a Sun Belt team instead of Oklahoma State so there would be a realistic chance to win the game. I say that because McNeese is historically 3-1 against Sun Belt teams and the one loss was by 8 points while they have never beaten a team in any of the Power 5 conferences. But the silver lining is they'll get more money. Anyway here it is:

What makes you think you would host a Sun Belt team?

Oh that was just not thinking about what I was typing. I know they can't host a Sun Belt team because the Sun Belt has a rule that its members can't play at FCS schools. I'll change "host" to "play." Obviously all four of their previous games against Sun Belt teams were on the road.

BTW I think that's a stupid rule. Like for instance there is no good reason why Louisiana Lafayette and McNeese State shouldn't have a home and home series. They are 60 miles apart and when they do play it's clear that the Southwestern Louisiana area they are in has interest in the game. The McNeese game was Louisiana Lafayette's highest attended home game each of the two times the Cajuns played McNeese while the Cajuns were Sun Belt members. A home and home vs. McNeese makes more sense financially for Louisiana Lafayette than a home and home with anybody in the Sun Belt does. Plus it's been a competitive series. They've played six games while Louisiana Lafayette was I-A/FBS and McNeese was I-AA/FCS and the series is tied 3 - 3. Since Louisiana Lafayette joined the Sun Belt it's been 1-1 with McNeese winning 38-17 in 2007 and Louisiana Lafayette winning 30-22 in 2016.

An annual home and home series between the two would be good for both schools both financially and in terms of interest in their geographic footprint.

I agree it could be a good thing. I thought maybe there was some precedent for it.

With 13 teams it seems like there's usually a team or two that come out of nowhere. PSU a few year's back. Weber, Sac, and Davis in 2018. SUU every odd numbered year. JSU and the Griz (that game should be in Cheney, btw) look to be the biggest FCS hurdles, but on paper, this might be one of the easier schedules we've had in a long time and I'm presently surprised to not see a 2nd FBS on there.

Poly finished strong last season and if they can come close to replacing Protheroe's production they're my dark horse (ha! get it?) for climbing the ladder.

Nice intersectional matchup with the Jacksonville State thing.

It's Eastern Washington's Grizzly Stadium. :coffee:

And there's not much difference, we're the winningest away team at both. :coffee: :coffee:

Do you think it's possible that FBS teams do not want to play North Dakota State?

We get a lot of rejections from FBS teams. Oregon next year, Arizona in 2022, and Colorado in 2024 are on the schedule.

UNI is probably NOT the team to schedule for Homecoming, but I STILL see NDSU as finishing undie.

I also see EWU with the POTENTIAL for that...IF a certain school gets careless and overlooks them. Eleven and one (effectively 10-1) is a no brainer with that schedule, though I hope I'm wrong (of course, I would LOVE to see them lose to Sac, but I just don't see it happening at the moment)....

I may well lose some cred with this one, but I think I'm seeing 10-2 for YouDee here. (With Pitt in there, they probably cost themselves a seed by not replacing NDSU with a D-II.)

I see 8-4 or 9-3 for BBQ. Yes, I'm banking on a BBQ loss to Sac in that figure, but the wildcard there for me is San Diego State. For a team of BBQ's stature, the Aztecs COULD be ripe for a fall. I DON'T see the Wildcats, however, beating Angus McClure's UNR squad....

I see NAU as 5-7 with that schedule, but there are a FEW games that could flip-flop to make it as far as 7-5 (I'm counting a loss to Sac, of course, as well as SW MO State. I'm including season-ending wins against SUU and Idalol....
