DelDOT spent millions of dollars connecting 301 to 1, when the obvious solution was to connect 1 to 896,and THEN call it Rt. 1 so this "rivalry" name would make sense.

That's enough out of you. Stop padding your post count.

I have about seven years worth of posts to make up for.
DelDOT just spent hundreds of millions putting an overpass over every light that previously existed from Little Heaven to Milford on RT 1; 6 overpasses total. The bookends (Little Heaven and Front St Milford) opened just before Memorial Day this year, completing the corridor project.
Traffic is worse than ever this year. DelDOT fail.

They should just call it I-195 and get it over with.

If that got the fedralgubmint to pay for a third lane each way, it'd be worth it. Back in the early 90s when RT 1 first opened, it was obvious that the two lanes each way were immediately insufficient.
For the longest time I was thinking that they were preparing for a third lane all along the medians between North Smyrna and the bridge toll, but no, they just put up extra railings to stop people from flying across into the opposite lane.
