N.C. A&T, a founding member of the MEAC in 1971, will announce Friday it is leaving the conference for the Big South.

The move is pending approval of A&T’s board of trustees, which meets Friday morning. If that approval happens, A&T plans to hold a news conference at 10 a.m. Friday to formally announce the change of leagues, according to a source inside the university who spoke on condition of anonymity.

The Aggies’ bowling team would remain in the MEAC, the source said, but all other sports would move to the Big South effective July 1, 2021.

I'm kind of proud of A&T for doing this. They were in that thing where they could claim the "Black National Championship" just for beating a team from the SWAC. And they gave that up in order to truly compete. Good for NC A&T.

MEAC membership must be in rough shape if NCA&T is bailing.

Also so much for that ASun realignment "power play" on raiding the Big South. Whoops.

I wonder what this means for Liberty, having jumped to the ASun for all sports not called football....

Why?

The self segregation of HBCUs is one of the greatest ironies in our country

A&T would be a perfect fit for the SoCon... their academic prestige, recent lack of NC schools with the departure of Elon and App...

SCSU also should be SoCon if they could get their financials in order

Why do HBCUs like segregation?

Don’t know why JMU hasn’t scheduled them. They’re a 3 1/4 hr drive. Would be a lot better than some of the OOC slop JMU has scheduled the next few seasons..

I misspoke- they’re bout 3 1/4 hrs from JMU.

Other OOC JMU has played in the last couple seasons, Norfolk St, Morgan St, St Francis, are in the 3 to 3 1/4 hr ballpark.

I was looking forward to this game at the Fargodome, but with this virus crap, it might not happen.

I plan on making the trip next year. Game is scheduled on 9/18..Plan on flying into SLC and spending a week or 2. Heading south I've been to all 5 Nat Parks in Utah (3 of them 2X), to Page (Antelope Canyon & Horseshoe Bend), and the Grand Canyon. Heading north been 2 times to Grand Tetons & Yellowstone. Maybe make the trip all the way to Glacier, but that would be a haul.

I was wondering if this game could get pegged for the 2021 early season Week 0 kickoff game. Just not in Alabama at the Crampton Bowl, but @ Weber. JMU @ Weber should be one of the top, if not the top, OOC game for 2021..Of the 6 seasons that they've done the "FCS Kickoff" game, its only the last 3 that they've held it at the Crampton Bowl, which all involved a Bama team (JSU or Samford). Having it at a neutral site is dumb, because it kills attendance. This season with be AP & UCA.
