Fall 2021 Prognostication

I'm going on record right now. Hornets 11-0, including wins against UNI and the Griz, and an FBS win against Cal and former Hornet OL/assistant coach Angus McClure!
I do like, though, that we have three legit OOC games this year, not just games against fellow BSC schools that have been designated as "OOC" simply because they're not in our regular rotation for the year.

Why are you laughing? We're not playing JMU, at least not until the playoffs....

How will the Spring season impact teams this fall?
- Will teams that didn't play or only played a couple of games be more rested and have fewer injuries?
- Will the teams that played a bunch of games be more in sync to start and get a jump on the competition?
- Will the teams that went deeper into the playoffs be more susceptible to injuries?

I think the teams that played more games will be more competitive in general. NDSU has benefitted from extra games and practice thru the Frisco game. This leads to more experience, more players getting playing time. It appears to have helped JMU also. The QB that played for NDSU this spring, may be on the depth chart come fall. The top 2 RB's that were injured will be back, as the #2 receiver, and some O-Line help.

Obviously as a Griz fan, I think they will do well, but most of that comes from being able to keep almost all impact players, while adding a few during the pandemic.
I do wish we were able to have kept Samori Toure though.

I like our defense coming back. Held Sam Houston to 24 points, even with our top defensive back leaving for the transfer portal to UVA at the last minute. Offense, we hopefully get the top 2 running backs and #2 receiver back. Biggest question is QB. Does Miller hold off the Virginia Tech transfer and incoming freshman from Nebraska? Hope to see improvement at that position. I see we have 4 FBS transfers, which is unusual for us. Like to see the recruits work their way up, but the new transfer rules makes it a different game.

Feels like 7-4 ish in Cheney with some upside on offense as the oline matures and if EB3 is allowed to improvise more. Some of being pushed around by the Bizon was losing our two best LB’s, one to transfer and one to injury. The D line needs to be shored up and grow though for sure. Worried about depth there.

The SoCon could possibly see both military schools in the hunt. VMI almost certainly will start the season picked first, and El Cid finished strong and is getting everybody back.

I agree that getting game reps will help but SDSU and Sammy will have less than 16 weeks between their last game of spring football and their first game of fall football. They will have 4 months less than previous title game teams did for their bodies to recuperate, rest and then get back into game shape. They'll probably be more in sync but will they and other playoff teams be more susceptible to injuries because of the short layoff?

Sac goes 4-7 and won’t have to worry about who they’re playing in the playoffs.

Which bet? That was a two part prognostication.

Well...not many 4-7 teams have to worry about the playoffs.

Well, considering they don’t play EWU, Weber or MSU, you’re probably right. They’ll be a paper tiger like SUU was a couple years ago.
