    Overall: 11-7

Best Performance: Northern Arizona 21, (FBS) Arizona 19 - Harrison Beemiller puts up 10 tackles, 4.5 TFLs, and a forced fumble as his Lumberjacks get their first-ever win over the Pac-12.

Worst Performance: Cal Poly 14, South Dakota 48 - I know Cal Poly doesn't run the option anymore, but it's still gotta be jarring for Mustang fans to see their team lose rushing 353-62.

Most Surprising Result: Northern Arizona 21, (FBS) Arizona 19 - This is only the 2nd. time NAU has allowed less than 20 points in a game under head coach Chris Ball.

Worst Performance: Houston Baptist 27, Prairie View A&M 37 - A bit of bad luck for the Huskies as starting QB Blais Bentsen threw 3 TD passes in the first quarter before leaving with a serious injury. HBU only managed 2 field goals without Bentsen in the game.

Most Surprising Result: (#15) Southeastern Louisiana 56, Central Connecticut St. 10 -The Lions throw for 477 yards and 4 touchdowns on just 35 attempts as they definitively prove CCSU was a one-year wonder.

    vs. FCS: 7-1
    Overall: 17-2

Best Performance: (#5) North Dakota St. 35, Towson 7 - The Bison defense holds Towson to 37 yards in the first half and keeps them off the scoreboard until the final 3 minutes of the game.

Worst Performance: Illinois St. 31, Eastern Illinois 24 - The Redbirds needed a last-minute touchdown to beat an OVC team that is now 2-20 since the beginning of 2019.

Most Surprising Result: Western Illinois 56, (#7) Eastern Washington 62 - The Leathernecks seemed content to absorb another Big Sky spanking at halftime, but—fueled by Dennis Houston's 225 total yards and 3 total TDs—they almost pulled off an insane comeback.

Worst Performance: Eastern Illinois 24, Illinois St. 31 - The Panthers have now lost 4 straight and 17 of the last 23 in the Mid-America Classic series with ISU.

Most Surprising Result: Murray St. 10, (FBS) Bowling Green 27 - A popular scalp pick for this week, the Racers instead amass just 176 yards for the game and 0 second-half points.

Best Performance: Lamar 17, Northern Colorado 10 (OT) - Desmond Veals puts up 3.5 TFLs, 2 sacks, and a pass breakup in a dominant defensive performance by the Cardinals.

Worst Performance: Tarleton St. 35, Southern Utah 40 - The Texans lose a game that was close throughout primarily thanks to a whopping 15 penalties for 150 yards. :?

Most Surprising Result: Lamar 17, Northern Colorado 10 (OT) - The Bears were on a backup QB, but it's still surprising Lamar was able to hold UNC to 35 fewer points than they had against Houston Baptist.

James Madison’s senior from Atlee High kicked three field goals to help the No. 3 Dukes win 37-24 at No. 9 Weber State before 11,222 at Stewart Stadium. The first of the three 3s gave Ratke 76 career field goals, which broke the FCS mark of 75 set by Montana’s Dan Carpenter 2004-07.

Ratke was good from 44, 40 and 40 yards against Weber State.

Kid is $$$$$. For all the weapons JMU has, Ratke might be the 2nd most valuable player on the team.

Worst Performance: Georgetown 9, Harvard 44 - The Hoyas lose rushing 335-6 in an uncompetitive effort.

Most Surprising Result: Lafayette 13, (#23) New Hampshire 19 - The Leopards nearly pulled a big upset, but still… it's their 11th. consecutive non-conference loss.

Worst Performance: Central Connecticut St. 10, (#15) Southeastern Louisiana 56 - The Blue Devils ran 15 more plays than SELU and were still outgained 571-290.

    Overall: 16-3

Best Performance: (#3) James Madison 37, (#9) Weber St. 24 - An 88-yard fumble-return TD by Josh Sarratt in the second quarter completely changed the direction of the game and allowed the Dukes to cruise to a relatively easy victory.

Worst Performance: Towson 7, (#5) North Dakota St. 35 - This rematch of the 2013 title game ended up with the exact same score. :?

Most Surprising Result: (#23) New Hampshire 19, Lafayette 13 - The Wildcats may be 3-0, but it's still unclear if they're actually good.

    vs. FCS: 3-1
    Overall: 5-5

Best Performance: (#20) Monmouth 41, Charleston Southern 14 - The Hawks leave no doubt against a conference opponent and finally look something like the team they were supposed to be.

Worst Performance: Charleston Southern 14, (#20) Monmouth 41 - The Bucs seem destined for yet another mediocre season after losing their 5th. straight against Monmouth.

Most Surprising Result: Campbell 72, Presbyterian 0 - It was difficult to know what to expect from this one, but the Camel defense was surprisingly well prepared to play against a wacky scheme they likely didn't have much film on.

SoCon

VMI 31-21 COR

  • NConf Record: 3-3
    Overall: 12-11

    vs. FCS: 2-1
    Overall: 8-5

Best Performance: Tennessee-Chattanooga 23, (FBS) Kentucky 28 - A 95-yard interception-return TD by Tyrell Ajian with 7:40 to play derailed what could've been a great upset for the Mocs.

Worst Performance: Wofford 10, (#24) Kennesaw St. 31 - The Terriers are outrushed 343-67 by a KSU team that looked vulnerable coming in.

Most Surprising Result: Tennessee-Chattanooga 23, (FBS) Kentucky 28 - The Mocs won yardage & turnovers, a recipe for victory probably 90+% of the time, but they had to settle for 3 field goals inside the 30 yard line.

Pioneer League

USD 10-52 MTST

    Overall: 11-16

    vs. FCS: 0-8
    Overall: 1-15

Best Performance: Butler 77, (NAIA) Taylor 24 - After falling behind 14-0, the Bulldogs put up their highest point total since a 122-0 win over Hanover 100 years ago next month.

Worst Performance: Presbyterian 0, Campbell 72 - His approach is certainly innovative, but I don't think "commit 10 turnovers in a game" was part of Kevin Kelley's plan.

Most Surprising Result: Presbyterian 0, Campbell 72 - Not often a team goes from a 65-point win to a 72-point loss in consecutive weeks.

JMU’s starting QB Cole Johnson sucked early last Winter/Spring. Was benched in the 3rd game @ Elon. Improved some during the last 3 regular season games in the Winter/Spring, enough to keep the starting job, and them took it up a notch in the playoffs. Now he is off the charts.
64 of 86 (74.4%). Tied with SELA’s Kelley for 1st in nation.
854 yds, 11 TDs, 0 INT.
3rd in nation in pass efficiency, 1st among those with more than 50 pass attempts.

Throw out the #s vs non scholly Morehead. But against 2 suppose to be good defenses (vs Maine 25 of 30, 379, 4 TDs, mostly in the 1st half) and Weber (20 of 28, 177 yds, 3 TDs passing, 1 rushing TD) he was OUTSTANDING. Beginning of the season zero mention of him as a Payton candidate. That ought to change.

Yeah, he’s surrounded by a ton of talent at RB, WR, and TE. But at OL due graduation & injury went from 4 Sr/1 rSo at the start of Spring, to 1 rSr/1 rSo/3 rFr now, so he’s playing behind a young albeit talented OL. Also has a new OC and QB coach..

If some one had said during the early Spring after the Elon game he was going to doing what he is doing now, I would have said you smoking crack..Absolutely transformational.

And Holy Cross beat UConn.
JMU was actually slated to play Merrimac OOC Nov 2020 and figured they would be a cupcake..2019 1st season FCS.
https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Merrima ... s_football

Heck, maybe they win the NEC. Are they AQ eligible?

I found one article that says they are eligible in 2023, but have no idea if that's reliable.

Anyone hear any explanation of Yahoo! Sports' giving D-II Lincoln a phony second-quarter rouge against Gardner-Webb?

From what I remember, the NC game was more competitive. Towson bent over and spread their cheeks wide from play one.

I hereby apologize to VMI and Kennesaw State for all the shit I have been saying this summer.

It's too early to know that, but he doesn't have the same comparative level of talent he had at Pulaski Academy.

For starters, he needs better defensive talent and his QB to not throw 7 INTs in a game. :?

All 3 games the Blue Hose have played are on youtube.
