I-AA vs I-A all time.

Post by BDKJMU »

So far this season 10 wins. Counting 10-84 overall. Vs P5 4-41 & vs G5 6-43.

Ivy, So-Con through 1981 & W&M, UR among others, through 1983, were considered 'I-A'. Had MAC teams and others moving down to I-AA & then back to I-A though the early/mid 80s.

All y'all back East have the advantage of getting a scalp by playing Sun Belch, C-USA, etc. We don't have the travel budget to do that out west. We've got Pac-12 (P-5) and MWC since the WAC gave up the ghost (before resurrecting itself as a FCS conference). Not all of us can play the Oregon States and Wazzus of the P-5 world every year. The scalp isn't technically impossible, but it sure is a whole lot harder for us....

Some east coast FCS teams don't play lower-tier FBS a lot because they'd lose money over just playing a home game. There aren't many, but it would apply to JMU and UD for instance.

Delaware's recent (plus known future) FBS slate. We typically throw in one fun OOC game per year. Navy is lower-tier FBS, but it's a terrific game-day atmosphere and we recruit Maryland heavily:

2027 - Penn State
2023 - Penn State
2022 - Navy
2021 - Rutgers
2020 - North Carolina State (canceled due to COVID)
2019 - Pittsburgh; also hosted NDSU regular season
2018 - No FBS, but traveled to NDSU regular season
2017 - Virginia Tech
2016 - Wake Forest
2015 - North Carolina
2014 - Pittsburgh
2013 - Navy
2011 - Navy
2010 - No FBS, but hosted SDSU in regular season
2009 - Navy
2008 - Maryland
2007 - Navy

I wish Navy would schedule us again but they won’t. At least Army had the balls to do it last fall after a long hiatus.

It was fun watching Flacco drop 59 points on Paul Johnson's squad in 2007, and Andy Hall also beating them in 2003 on the way to the national title. I went to both of those in Annapolis. Navy used to travel to Newark ('85, '87, and '89), but quit after losing 2 of those 3. Navy leads the series 10-7 after taking the last three in a row.

Delaware hasn't played Army since 1933, when they lost 52-0 in West Point. Apparently that left a mark.
