Predicting the Conference Champions

Post by SuperHornet »

Intriguing....

ASUN/WAC (AQ7): Sam Houston State (duh)

Big Sky: Sacramento State (wow!)
(Rationale is that MSU still has to get past EWU and Montana, while Sac has really only UC Davis. They expect that if Sac wins out, they get the title outright, while a loss to Davis will result in a tie with EWU, which EWU will win based on winning percentage. The NCAA staff now thinks that Sac will win out.)

Big South: Kennesaw State
(Monmouth has won 13 straight conference games by double digits, but they have struggled outside the conference. Kennesaw has not, and should have the better overall record, including a win over Jacksonville State of the scalp.)

CAA: Villanova
(Only remaining challenge is plummeting Delaware, but 'Nova may well already have the title sewed up by then, making that point moot.)

Ivy: Princeton
(Not playing after the regular season, but Princeton has only Dartmouth left as a challenge, having already taken care of Columbia and Harvard.)

MEAC: Norfolk State
(Best offense in the MEAC has beaten every non-FBS on the schedule.)

MVFC: S. Illinois (shocker!)
(The argument is similar to that in the Big Sky: SIU has an easier remaining schedule than NDSU.)

NEC: Bryant
(There are four one-loss teams in the NEC. St. Francis has lost to Bryant, and still has Sacred Heart and Duquesne. Bryant has already played everyone with one loss, having only lost to Duquesne, which is the only school who can beat Bryant in a tiebreaker. The writer says Bryant will tie with Sacred Heart, giving Bryant the title in a tie-breaker.)

OVC: TN-Martin
(Only TN-Martin and TN State have winning records in the OVC.)

Patriot: Holy Cross
(Wins over UCONN and then-#20 Monmouth.)

Pioneer: Davidson
(Has win over San Diego. Even one loss can give Davidson the title due to tie-breakers.)

SoCon: TN-Chattanooga
(Wins over #10 ETSU and VMI give Mocs the tie-breaker.)

Southland: SELA
(Reigning Payton Award winner should be enough.)

SWAC: Jackson State
(Win over perennial favorite FL A&M. Easy remaining schedule. Only caveat: Alcorn State, but writer expects that even an Alcorn win won't be repeated in the SWAC Championship, thereby sending Jackson State to the Celebration Bowl.)

SuperHornet's Athletics Hall of Fame includes Jacksonville State kicker Ashley Martin, the first girl to score in a Division I football game. She kicked 3 PATs in a 2001 game for J-State.
