You can have 125 kids on your roster. We have 20+ seniors, some of the recruits won't show up, some of the current players will probably enter the portal due to desire for playing time or trying their skills in FBS. This transfer portal thing, is a new wrinkle to managing rosters. I'm sure our coaches are also looking at the portal.

I'm not sure I've seen any school sign 34 players. Looks like Texas led I-A with 27.

Yeah, ‘signing‘ (counted 31) players doesn‘t make sense, when only scholly sign LOI‘s. You don‘t ‘sign‘ walkons.

JMU has about 114 on the roster, is moving up to 85 schollies, amd signed 19. I‘m sure if you included the preferred walkons, there‘s 30 some guy, but preferred walkons aren‘t part of the ‘signing‘ class.

People on eGriz are bitching about how little we signed, but as far as I can tell, we still have a glut of younger players due to Covid.

For example, our backup QB is a Redshirt freshman, but academically is a Junior.

You can include preferred walk-ons in your class. MSU announced I think 3 preferred walk-ons with this class.

Sure listed separately. But not indistinguished from the rest of your ‘signing’ class because because they‘re not ‘signing‘ LOIs.

Signing class means LOIs and scholarships, hence why they call it ‘signing.‘

Bobby said we have almost 60 Freshmen on the roster. That's pretty wild.

Not really. You have 1st yr Fr, 2nd yr Fr, and because of Covid, 3rd yr Fr (along with 4th yr Soph, 5th yr Juniors, 6th yr Seniors). And

114 on JMU‘s roster, counted 59 ‘Fr/rFr‘. But that is spread outver the 2019, 2020, amd 2021 recruit classes.

Also the ‘Super Seniors’ who got an extra yr due to Covd don’t count against the 63 limit this season JMU for example has at meast 17 Super Seniors (19 seniors on roster), so 80 schollies playing with now. Everyone FCS from the full scholly conferences is in a similar same boat. For 2022 don’t get to replace the Super Senior schollies (which is almost all seniors), only whatever other attrition. So that means smaller classes across the board this year.

Only reason JMU signed 19 because going to 85 for FBS over the next couple years. If were staying FCS and only allowed 63 next season, wouldn‘t be able to fill the Super Super schollies (which is almost all the seniors). Basically would only be able to sign a small class to replace attrition.

Here‘s Hauck talking about it
https://missoulian.com/sports/college/b ... 6.amp.html

There‘s a slew of articles out there about everyone getting that extra year of eligibility, so less schollies avaible for the HS class of 2022. Here‘s one:
https://www.oklahoman.com/story/sports/ ... 752849001/

Think everything will be off kilter in Div I for the next 4 years until all classes that got an extra season are gone. Will be interesting to see how much longer it causes smaller signing classes.

We have 60 guys with 4 years of eligibility left. Seems like that's the case for other teams as well, but that is definitely not at all close to normal. It's gonna be a wild couple years.

Of course its not normal. It not normal to have 3rd yr Fr/4th yr Soph/5th yr Jr/6th yr Sr, and 5th and 6th yr Super Seniors playing their 5th season, not counting against the 63 scholly limit. We are in crazy times.

To be fair, I think this might work itself out, as it's likely we'll see a lot of movement from players with eligibility left in the next year or two: players graduating before exhausting their eligibility and having to make tough choices, players looking at 50+ other guys in their class and only 22 starting spots and deciding to move on, etc.

For example, it wouldn't surprise me at all if at least half of our freshmen eligibility-wise are gone within 2 seasons.

Majority of seasons have signed 1 to 2 guys from NJ. Are 6 from NJ on the current roster.
The odd thing is the 2 signees from Delaware. Only 1 Delawarean on the current roster, from Newark ironically, but he is a transfer from Maine.
