FCS All-America Teams

Post by SuperHornet »

Kinda bogus, if you ask me. It's not a full all-star team, it's just a list of who they feel is the best in the country at each position, and even at that, it's a bit suspect. While I don't think anyone can argue against Eric Barriere, the kicker should have been Kyle Sentkowski, and the LBer should have been Patrick O'Connell. And I would have love to have seen the RB selection go to Cameron Skattebo and the TE selection to Marshel Martin. Of course, I'm pretty much a homer, as all y'all well know. I'm also wondering what they mean by RS. About the only thing I can find is Right Safety (according to the old naming system; nowadays DCs don't usually refer to directional safeties. Rather, they flip where the safeties go depending on the offensive alignment, thereby leaving things open for robber alignments with the strong safety, while the free safety plays deep.) It could also mean Red Shirt, but that wouldn't make sense for a list of this caliber. I suspect they want a special teams thing, but they're not very specific about it....

Position Name Institution Conference
QB Eric Barriere Eastern Washington Big Sky Conference
RB Quay Holmes East Tennessee State Southern Conference
WR Xavier Gipson Stephen F. Austin Western Athletic Conference
TE Kemari Averett Bethune-Cookman SWAC
OL Trevor Penning Northern Iowa Missouri Valley Football Conference
PK Ethan Ratke James Madison CAA
DL Isaiah Chambers McNeese Southland Conference
LB Troy Andersen Montana State Big Sky Conference
DB Justin Ford Montana Big Sky Conference
RS Montrell Washington Samford Southern Conference
P Brian Buschini Montana Big Sky Conference

SuperHornet's Athletics Hall of Fame includes Jacksonville State kicker Ashley Martin, the first girl to score in a Division I football game. She kicked 3 PATs in a 2001 game for J-State.

Bethune Cookman has a WR on its roster that should have made AA status DARRYL POWELL at 6'4 200 he has obvious NFL Build for the aforementioned position.Too bad he is not at Florida A&M he would be their top pass catcher.
