Remaining members of the WAC and ASUN agree in principle to becoming the next FBS conference.

Didn't the most capable FBS programs from those conferences just get poached by CUSA? Not sure how this will work out.

Southern Utah in FBS?
First off, laughable.
Second, it would be great to see the heads on eGriz explode over this.. May have to pay a visit...

The end result of this is IMO is that there will once again be a "true" division 1 in football. The FCS will essentially exist so that schools that are in DI for the basketball can comply with the Dayton Rule.

Maybe they’ll be the conference to finally give the bizumbs the invite they so desire.

NDSU moving up to join a conference like that would be the funniest possible outcome here.

Quality-wise, ND State is probably about the best-positioned of any of us...particularly if they go on the Liberty plan. I'm not sure what conference would take them given what they would do the conference footprint. Most FBS call-ups who don't go on the Liberty plan are stuck in G5 conferences in the SE (C-USA, Sun Belch, etc.) I'm not sure the travel costs would be worth it.

-Northern Bama (recent Div II moveup)
-UT Rio Grande Valley (never heard of them- Div II moveup?)

UT Tech was Dixie State until this past summer.
TX-Rio Grande Valley is the result of a merger between TX-Pan American and TX-Brownsville, and inherit the D-I placement of TX-Pan American. The football program is a start-up that hasn't actually started yet. They would probably have to find a new parking place here in FCS-land for awhile unless the new league is allowed to have a split membership like the Gulf Star Conference did back in the '80s (I-AA and II) before it was absorbed by the Southland Conference). I think there was also a split I-A/I-AA conference, but I'm not finding it yet. Whatever rule there was allowing that idea is probably gone....
