NW State State Hires Blaine McCorkle

Northwestern State's tragic and controversial early end to their 2023 season gave them a head start on making a new hire. Blaine McCorkle spent 6 seasons as the head coach at DIII Belhaven after holding several assistant jobs (mostly OL coach) at various FCS schools. His record was only 31-25 overall with the Blazers, but it was 27-9 over the last 4 years.

Dan Hawkins Steps Down at UC Davis

Dan Hawkins decided to call it quits as a head coach so he spend more time with his family. Hawkins, an Aggie alum, will apparently fill some sort of assistant job in the UCD athletic department. Hawkins finishes his Davis tenure 44-31 overall with 1 Big Sky title (2016), 2 playoff appearances (2016, 2021), and 1 playoff win (2016). He (probably) concludes his overall head-coaching career with a record of 156-92-1.

Not a coaching change but could be huge for UNI ...

UNI names former Big 12 Commissioner Bob Bowlsby as Interim Athletic Director
“Very few opportunities could have lured me out of retirement, even on a short-term basis,” Bowlsby indicated. “Plenty of people have contacted me, but when President Nook called I certainly listened intently. The invitation to help set up the next Director of Athletics at UNI for success was an opportunity that I simply couldn’t refuse. UNI gave me such a remarkable opportunity as a young professional in collegiate athletics for which I’m eternally grateful. So much of what I learned at UNI helped guide my decisions throughout my career journey. I owe a great deal to UNI, and it is my distinct pleasure to serve in this interim role until the position can be filled on a full-time basis.”

Parady, the longest tenured head coach in DI, retired after 32 years (31 seasons) with the Red Foxes. Despite coaching the same school for 32 years, he technically hasn't reached retirement age yet (he's 62). His final record with the non-conference school was 155-171-1 with 4 conference titles (3 MAAC, 1 Pioneer).

There is a guy who is being looked at by SCSU as the successor Chenis Berry who once coached in the MEAC at MEAC RIVAL Howard University and he has a more offensive mind as opposed to Pough my personal choice would have been Quinn Gray from Albany St (D2) he was a product of the pass happy Rattlers of Florida A&M in the late '90s-'00s.Berry is currently coaching at D2 power Benedict College who is a participant in the D2 playoffs.Gray was a product of the Gulf Coast Offense created by ex-Rattler HC Billie Joe Benedict College is going to meet up with Lenore-Rhyne in the second round of the D2 playoffs.

Brian Wright, the head coach at DII Pittsburg State, became Northern Arizona's head coach this week. Wright has a career record of 37-8: 33-8 with the Gorillas, and 4-0 as the interim coach of FAU in 2013. His only connection to the Big Sky was his serving as Montana State's OC for 2 years in the middle of the Rob Ash era.

The Golden Eagles have gone with former Old Dominion head coach Bobby Wilder. Wilder, who was ODU's first head coach after they revived football in the late 2000s, went 77-56 in 11 seasons with the Monarchs. More impressively, his record was 46-14 in 5 seasons at the FCS level (2 playoff appearances) before his team moved up to FBS. Wilder's team also won 10 games including the Bahamas Bowl in 2016. He hasn't coached since being fired from ODU after the 2019 season, however.

Berry went 27-7 in 3 seasons with the Tigers, and went 22-2 over the last 2 years (they got a #1 seed both years, but got upset in the second round both times).

Prior to that, he went 32-11 in four seasons (not counting '20-21) at DIII Ithaca, so he should be quite familiar with Cornell's home turf.
