2023-24 Coaching Change Thread

I wasn't expecting to make this thread in August, but Al Bagnoli retired from Columbia today. Bagnoli went 35-35 in 7 seasons with the Lions, and he went 148-80 in 23 seasons at Penn. Mark Fabish, Columbia's OC, will be the interim coach.

I hope they find a replacement with a different mindset that preaches OFFENSE they have a WR core with the potential to be among the best in the FCS this year and please bench Corey Fields and replace him with Andre Washington 6-4 200.

I wished that ARCHIE COOLEY was in this era of college football it would be BOMBS AWAY in Orangeburg. He coached at Mississippi Valley St in the '80s he created the Magnolia Spread Offense that was copied by Bill Walsh in some aspects.South Carolina St has a WR with NFL POTENTIAL led by Cyrus Ellison 6-4 200.

Dartmouth's Buddy Teevens Dies

Posted: Wed Sep 20, 2023 12:42 am
by Mvemjsunpx
As many on this board were probably aware, Dartmouth head coach Buddy Teevens was severely injured when his bike was hit by a truck in March. He succumbed to those injuries today. Not counting Week 1 of this season (he was still nominally the head coach after the accident) or 2020-21 (the Ivies didn't play), Teevens went 91-79 coaching his alma mater over the past 17 seasons. He also coached Dartmouth from 1987-91, posting a record of 26-22-2. His combined record in 22 seasons at Dartmouth was 116-101-2 with 5 Ivy League titles. Teevens also had three other head-coaching stops: Maine (1985-86), Tulane (1992-96), and Stanford (2002-04). His combined HC record overall was 151-178-2.

Acting head coach Sammy McCorkle will now be the interim coach of the Big Green for the rest of the season.

Stony Brook Fires Chuck Priore

Posted: Mon Nov 13, 2023 8:58 pm
by Mvemjsunpx
Priore is gone from SBU after an 18-year stint that saw the Seawolves move from the then-non-scholarship NEC to the Big South to the CAA. He finished his Seawolf tenure 97-101, but the record was 84-66 prior to the last 5 seasons. During Priore's time, Stony Brook won 4 conference titles (all Big South) and had 4 playoff appearances (2 Big South, 2 CAA). Priore went 3-4 in the playoffs with first-round wins in '11, '12, and '17.

OC Andrew Dresner will be the interim coach for the finale.

Error correction here: When I made the previous post, I didn't realize Stony Brook had a bye the final week and is done for the year. That means Dresner is an offseason-only interim and is now deleted from the list above.

Southern Cans Dooley

Posted: Sun Nov 19, 2023 5:12 pm
by Mvemjsunpx
I missed this one earlier, but Southern fired Eric Dooley on Tuesday. Dooley went 12-10 in 2 seasons with the Jags after leaving Prairie View, but they failed to win the SWAC-West after being picked to do so in the preseason. The interim replacement assignments are kinda confusing: it says Sean Wallace will be the acting head coach for the Bayou Classic, but it says Terence Graves will be the interim coach. :? Graves was also the interim coach for Grambling in the Bayou Classic 2 years ago.

ETSU Fires George Quarles

Quarles went 3-8 in back-to-back seasons during his tenure with the Buccaneers.

Cornell Fires David Archer

Posted: Mon Nov 20, 2023 1:07 pm
by Mvemjsunpx
Archer's an alum, but it's still pretty remarkable that he lasted 10 seasons with a .290 winning percentage (29-71). His best season was 5-5 last year.

WIU Fires Myers Hendrickson

Posted: Mon Nov 20, 2023 1:11 pm
by Mvemjsunpx
Western Illinois's final year in the Missouri Valley will also be Myers Hendrickson's last year coaching the Leathernecks. After going 31-5 at NAIA Kansas Wesleyan, Hendrickson failed to win a single game at WIU in two seasons.

NAU Dunks Chris Ball

Posted: Mon Nov 20, 2023 1:17 pm
by Mvemjsunpx
As expected, Ball was fired at Northern Arizona today. The 'Jacks did go 5-3 in the Big Sky this season, but they went 5-6 overall and had nothing but losing seasons in Ball's 5-year tenure. His final record was 20-30.

Utah Tech Gets Rid of Paul Peterson

Posted: Mon Nov 20, 2023 1:29 pm
by Mvemjsunpx
Peterson's tenure at Dixie State/Utah Tech ends after 5 seasons. They won 4 games last year after going 1-10 in 2021, but they regressed back down to 2-9 this season. Peterson went 17-32 overall in St. George, and just 9-29 after the Blazers left Division II.

He was not the only one that got canned the HC for Texas Southern will not return either.

There is a guy who is being looked at by SCSU as the successor Chenis Berry who once coached in the MEAC at MEAC RIVAL Howard University and he has a more offensive mind as opposed to Pough my personal choice would have been Quinn Gray from Albany St (D2) he was a product of the pass happy Rattlers of Florida A&M in the '90s-'00s.Berry is currently coaching at D2 power Benedict College who is a participant in the D2 playoffs.Gray was a product of the Gulf Coast Offense created by ex-Rattler HC Billie Benedict College is going to meet up with Lenore-Rhyne in the second round of the D2 playoffs.

Morehead State Fires Rob Tenyer

Posted: Tue Nov 21, 2023 4:21 pm
by Mvemjsunpx
Tenyer, who had been a coach of some sort in Morehead since 2001, went 47-73 in 11 seasons as the head coach. His best seasons were 7-4 in both '15 and '21.

Clarence McKinney Gone at Texas Southern

Posted: Tue Nov 21, 2023 4:26 pm
by Mvemjsunpx
McKinney went 12-35 in 5 seasons in Houston. They improved from 0-11 in 2019 to 5-6 last year, but they regressed back to 3-8 in 2023.

Fun fact: McKinney played for Montana State for 3 years (1989-91) before transferring down to Mary.

Tennessee Tech Cans Dewayne Alexander

Posted: Tue Nov 21, 2023 4:28 pm
by Mvemjsunpx
A 35-0 win over rival Tennessee State wasn't enough to save Alexander's job in Cookeville. He went 19-43 in 6 seasons, never doing any better than .500.

McNeese opted to keep their head coach after the worst season in program history because the buy out would be too much.

ETSU Hires Tre Lamb Away from Gardner-Webb

Grambling Fires Hue Jackson

Posted: Wed Nov 29, 2023 5:37 am
by Mvemjsunpx
Hard-Luck Hue Jackson has been fired from yet another head-coaching job as he's now out in Grambling. He went 8-14 in 2 seasons with the Tigers with an 0-2 record in the Bayou Classic. In all seasons as a head coach at all levels, Jackson has a record of 19-58-1. His only non-losing season was when he went 8-8 with the Oakland Raiders in his only year there in 2011.
