After a rough start to the season with all conference games off the bat, I rebounded nicely and now sit at 16-3 for the year. This week has another round of non-conference games, including a game involving two conference members in a non-conference matchup. Some good games on tap this weekend, with the possibility existing that the conference may be able to eke out a scalp or two. Here are this week's predictions.
CP at San Jose State (FBS Mountain West)---The Mustangs have looked good in their first two games of the season. But they move up a level and play on the road. The Mountain West may be down, but the Mustangs may have drawn the top dog...San Jose State 38, CP 14.
Lamar (FCS Southland) at UI---The Vandals haven't got going quite yet this season, but they have their home opener this weekend. They play a non-conference game against one of the top dogs in the Southland conference. May be a tough test, but the Dome is tough to play...UI 28, Lamar 24.
EWU at South Dakota (FCS Missouri Valley)---The Eagles continue their foray into the Missouri Valley conference, this time heading out on the road to face one of the top hitters in that conference. The Eagles can turn it into a shootout, but can they get the win?...South Dakota 45, EWU 30.
UTU at UM---A non-conference game involving two conference members, and the Trailblazers continue their welcoming into the conference, this time playing the Grizzlies in their home den. A tough place for anyone to play and the Trailblazers may find that out...UM 45, UTU 10.
WSU at Colorado (FBS Big 12)---The Wildcats have had some impressive outings in the first two weeks of the season. They have shone a penchant for scoring. But as they move up a level this weekend, can they still score against a Big 12 team?...Colorado 38, WSU 7.
UCD at Southern Methodist (FBS ACC)---It may take them awhile, but the Aggies have shown they are a formidable foe. They play up a level this weekend against an opponent playing on a short week. Anything to keep it close and have a chance at the end...Southern Methodist 38, UCD 28.
UNC at Wyoming (FBS Mountain West)---This is not really the start of the season that the Bears were hoping for. Now they move up a level and make the short trip across the border to face a team that most FCS teams could battle. But can the Bears?...Wyoming 24, UNC 12.
San Diego (FCS Pioneer) at ISU---The Bengals got the big win last week after making the short trip south and emerging with a FBS scalp. The darlings of the conference, they now return home and bring in a team from the Pioneer League. This should be easier...ISU 48, San Diego 10.
SUU at Colorado State (FBS Pac-12)---The Thunderbirds found themselves in a shootout last week and got a good home win. They step up a level this weekend into the Pac-12 for a tough matchup. Are they good enough to get the conference's second Pac-12 scalp?...Colorado State 28, SUU 20.
Incarnate Word (FCS Southland) at NAU---The Lumberjacks have had no surprises yet this season. They got a conference home win in Week 0 and took a tough loss while playing up a level last week. They return home, bringing in a representative from the Southland...Incarnate Word 24, NAU 17.
North Dakota (FCS Missouri Valley) at PSU---The Vikings looked strong for the first quarter in stepping up a level last weekend, only to not be able to sustain it. They come back home this weekend, welcoming a former conference foe. But it is a good foe...North Dakota 38, PSU 7.
MSU at Nevada (FBS Mountain West)---The Bobcats have been steamrolling the opposition so far this season. But they move up a level and play a good team from the Mountain West. A good test for the Bobcats. Are they the better team here?...MSU 31, Nevada 30.
CP at San Jose State (FBS Mountain West)---The Mustangs have looked good in their first two games of the season. But they move up a level and play on the road. The Mountain West may be down, but the Mustangs may have drawn the top dog...San Jose State 38, CP 14.
