Will FCS Weber beat FBS Wyoming on Sep 5?

WSU is projected to be better in 2009 than 2008. In 2008 WSU finished #7 in the FCS Top 25 and lost in the NCAA Quarters. WSU split the Big Sky title with Montana.

Wyoming finished in the Sagarin Ratings in 2008 lower than WSU and UM. Wyo now has a new coach for the upcoming.

The week after the WSU/Wyo game, Wyo will play Texas and WSU will play Colorado State.

I hope Weber wins, but I don't think they will be able too.

It should be a decent game, maybe single digits, but I gotta give it to Wyoming.

One more thing, for the UM fans:

Vote if u think they really will win the game, don't just say no because you want WSU to lose.

Well, this UM fan voted NO because I don't think Weber will win...

And I don't think Weber will beat UM...or could beat my UM...

Have more then one break out year and I'll trust the team to do it. So for now, no.

Exactly...win consistently, then you can make bold predictions...otherwise, it's just smack...

I hate it when ASU or Montana folks talk with that air of certainity...but those programs have proven themselves, and their fans can be a little bold...

But what's has Weber done other than last year???

Good call, sly...

no, wyoming has never lost to an "FCS" program and are improving and will be better than last year.

Most FBS have never lost to FCS. Also to add to that, WSU has never beat an FBS.

More than one break out year? To be fair we've only had one break out coach...so far, in what? 47 yrs...

Would you say WSU will be back to the middle of pack or below the middle of pack next year?
Last season we thought WSU could finish in the top 3 and at halftime at Hawaii we were up 17-7, though we did end up losing the game.

With a proven offense from last year coming back, and if they are healthy, our fans are a little more confident about attempting a win @ Wyo opposed to @ UH.

I gotta ask. Why call out only the UM fans? I don't know of any other BSC team that is a "fan" of Weber.

I think our history can be thrown out the window for now, kinda like Portland State basketball these past 2 years, history was against them, poor facilities, poor fan support, yet they were able to do things that had pretty much never been done in the school's history. No one in the Big Sky believed they would do what they did pretty much either season.

I only said this because there are lots of UM fans that post on this forum.

Also, do you really live in Deer Lodge? If so, I'll PM ya about it.

Yeah I'm from Deer Lodge. I live in Fargo for college (no not NDSU).

Middle of the pack and up. But that doesn't; mean you'll beat Wyoming. Hopefully your coach will take your team in the right direction and not get picked up by a FBS school like ours did.

Can't promise a win, but the Wildcats will probably be favored and certainly have one of the best shots this year for any FCS program to pull of the win against an FBS opponent.

On the plus side for Weber State is that they bring back eight starters from the #4 scoring offense in the nation, including the #1 passer (Cameron Higgins, 4,460 yards), #1 receiver (Tim Toone, 1,525 yards) and #1 scorer (Trevyn Smith, 168 points and 1,585 all purpose yards). Also favoring Weber is the fact that this is the first game of the season for both teams. My guess is that the WSU offense will be in a much more advanced state of preparation than the Cowboy defense by the time 5 September rolls around.

On the negative side, WSU lost the majority of the starters from a defense that was good but not consistently great last year. The defense will be an unknown quantity.

That's one of the great things about Mac. He may lose his assistant coaches to better paying jobs every year as long as the team continues to perform well, but he himself will be sticking around forever.

Man you have some serious envy issues if you would think that UM fans want you to lose that game. Winning that game makes the whole conference look better. It makes us look better if you beat them and then come in to WaGriz and we beat a 1 loss or even better an undefeated WSU. Did you see a lot of fans not touting WSU as a real legit team to the rest of the FCS community last year? I didn't. The only thing I can take away from what you posted is that you or WSU fans would be rooting against U of M in a similar situation and I think you would be in the minority of WSU fans that felt that way.

BTW, I voted no but I do hope that I am wrong. If it helps you justify why I may have voted that way, I also don't think U of M would win that game. I would find reasons that we COULD win it but I wouldn't just think we were gonna win. Let me put it this way...if Wyoming were in any FCS conference this year I would pick them to win that conference.

Native the one thing that I can't see is that the WSU offense will be further along than the Wyo defense. That goes exactly the opposite of what I have seen traditionally for any program. Especially in UM's case the first half of the season is not nearly as good as the second half as far as offense goes.

Good Points, Ursus.

BTW - WEBER FANS: I took a rash of shit over on another website after I voted WEBER #1, after watching you in person in Flagstaff. And had you not choked against EWU, who knows what would have happened.

Bottom Line: I, and every TRUE Big Sky fan wants every Big Sky team to win EVERY OOC game.

With notable exceptions, I don't really think the UM fans vote against Weber so often Wildcat, except when we play against the Griz.

Last year, UM, MSU, NAU, Cal Poly and other non-Wildcat fans were some of Weber's biggest supporters!

Point well taken, Ursus, and I would normally agree.

But after seeing the offensive performance this spring and considering how much of the offense returns intact, I think Cameron and crew will be picking up in September where they left off last December, as opposed to starting all over as would occur most seasons.

In short, I think there is a good chance for 2009 to be the exception which proves the rule. Just my opinion.
