Should SUU join the Big Sky?
Hello everyone. Just trying to fill in more time before the season i was just wondering wether or not you think SUU will or should move into the Big Sky Conference? I personally believe that with Ed Lambs recruiting and better developement of our players that we will be a force to be reckoned with this year and in years to come. Just would like to see what you all think.

Re: Should SUU join the Big Sky?
SUU needs to build up a fanbase, stadium, and some wins then we can talk about Big Sky membership. They've played some tough schedules the last two years, but they need to start winning.

No they shouldn't, and yes the Great West is falling apart. I expect UND and USD to move east.

The great west as a football leauge isnt falling apart and south and north dakota have signed on as members for every single sport. Where are you getting the info that it is falling apart?

I kinda like the Big Sky as it is, but I would like to see Weber establish some kind of rivalry games with both SUU and USU.pantherrob82 wrote:No they shouldn't, and yes the Great West is falling apart. I expect UND and USD to move east.
If the Great West does fall apart, and if UND and USD go east, would they go to the Missouri Valley? MV is already a big conference. I suppose the logical landing place for Cal Poly, UC Davis and SUU would be the Big Sky, but the BSC would then have to split up into two divisions.
What would we call it? ...the Great Big Sky West Conference?
Not sure I like that idea, not just the name but also because the two division winners would probably play each pother twice - once for the championship and again in the playoffs.
Re: Should SUU join the Big Sky?
I really don't see any FCS conferences playing "conference championship" games.native wrote:Not sure I like that idea, not just the name but also because the two division winners would probably play each pother twice - once for the championship and again in the playoffs.

If anything i could see the great west getting bigger with an influx of division 2 schools in the future, and the football conference will get bigger with the additions of UVU adding football.

Yes, SUU needs a western home, and the Summit needs to reduce its footprint. Another team will also help the Big Sky with basketball scheduling, although 10 isn't that great for football.

I don't like the idea, but it already happens in the SWAC.JayJ79 wrote:I really don't see any FCS conferences playing "conference championship" games.native wrote:Not sure I like that idea, not just the name but also because the two division winners would probably play each pother twice - once for the championship and again in the playoffs.
Of course, this means that the conference contenders have to sacrifice their shot at the playoffs.

USD just signed on with the Summit... UND didn't get an offer because of the nickname problem, but once that's resolved... they'll get the invite.SUUTbird wrote:The great west as a football leauge isnt falling apart and south and north dakota have signed on as members for every single sport. They did just sign on with the summit league. USD has signed with the Great West, follow the link below for the proof:TwinTownBisonFan wrote:USD just signed on with the Summit... It is true that South Dakota just signed with the Summit for most sports starting in 2010. SUU will there play them in basketball, et. al. But, as of now, South Dakota and North Dakota are in the Great West for football.

I would like SUU to join the Sky, but if they didnt I still think Weber and SUU should start playing each other again.

No, they haven't. USD is joining the Summit, and UND is unafiliated for all sports due to their nickname issue.SUUTbird wrote:The great west as a football leauge isnt falling apart and south and north dakota have signed on as members for every single sport. Yeah i just noticed that. When will North Dakotas get their name issue resolved? And what is the story behind that? I know it has something to deal with the tribes of Sioux but whats the full issue.

I wouldn't worry about it, both UND and USD will be playing football in the Great West for some time. Their only other option(MVFC) is very happy with 9 teams.SUUTbird wrote:Ah okay, my bad twintownbisonfan, man that sucks!TwinTownBisonFan wrote:

Re: Should SUU join the Big Sky?
I've always been curious about the SUU situation, but don't think the Big Sky would come calling unless they needed to.
The only scenario that made any sense (and still a longshot) would be:
* Fullerton adds football and the Big West sponsors the sport (Fullerton, UC Davis, Cal Poly with UND, USD and SUU as associate members)
* With Big West football sponsorship, Sac St. leaves the Big Sky for the Big West for all sports (football=Sac St, Fullerton, UC Davis, Cal Poly with UND, USD and SUU as associate members)
* Big Sky looks to replace Sac St. Options are to expand by (2) and bring NDSU and SDSU as travel partners OR go with a single school to replace the loss of a single school.
* Big Sky invites SUU as a natural geographic rival for NAU and Weber St. rather than a pair of Dakota schools.

The BSC is taking enoromous flak for its last addition of a Great West dormat, UNC. There is no need for another.

Would San Diego be let in to your scenario since they don't offer 63 scholarships?

And Utah State will not go FCS, nor will IDAHO, unless you are planning on elevating all those schools to FBS.
