Alright, the second in my series of predicting what i and you guys think the outcome of this conference will be. This week it is the Big South Conference and after going through all the stats and teams web pages this is what i think will be the 09 results:

1st- Liberty (Flames return most of their high powered offense and improved D, lets see if they get to the playoffs over a mediocre CAA team this year)

2nd- VMI (A bold prediction for the Keydets but i think with the great leadership of Sparky Woods and the military philosiphy combined with their triple option offense will see VMI here in 09).

3rd- Charleston Southern (After a brutal opening three games were CSU will go 0-3 the Bucs will rebound and take third place in the Big South)

4th- Stony Brook (The Sea Wolves will once again finish in the middle of the pack of the Big South Conference, still getting the talent they need to take it all)

5th- Gardner Webb (Losing Starting and senior QB Devin Cambell and two tough fbs games will prove to much for the runnin bulldogs)

6th Costal Carolina (The beach hens will find the Big South as they did last year. Difficult to compete in)

**EDIT** 7th Presbyterian (The blue hose will find their first year in the BIg South a rough one) **Forgot they moved into the conference this year**

Good analysis.

Big South posters? Comments?

I don't see CCU at the bottom.

We'll see how Liberty and VMI hold up after their loses to JMU this fall. Also, Liberty lost their number one running back Rashad Jennings, their star QB Brock Smith and their number one receiver Dominic Boldin... how can you say they are returning most of their high powered offense when they lost the three top players on that offense? They are also losing their second leading receiver unless he plans on sticking around... they have Crawford listed as a R-Senior last year and he still has eligibility if I'm not mistaken.

Partly from what i read about in the spring game it looks like Liberty returns enough talent to light up the scoreboard, i however didnt realize that they had lost their starting Qb and running back. But i still stand by my prediction as they are returning 7 staters on offense and liberty has been a very good team for the past couple of years.

Since no one else is putting forth an opinion, i would have thought all the out east people would be on this thread:

-Liberty
-Chareston Southern
-Stony Brook
-VMI
-Costal Carolina
-Gardner Webb
-Presbyterian

utgrizfan, i believe that you are correct on one, two and three but the others are just too close to call. CCU has a good coach and he is due for a better year. Coach Sparky at VMI is in his second year and will have a positive impact. each school claimes a good stock of new recruits. Prespy beat Liberty last year (big upset) they could surprise some teams this year also. Gardner webb can be tough. the big south as a conference is improving and playing tougher schedules which is turn will benefit each team. Go Big South; Go bucs!!!

1. Liberty lost a lot. Unfortunately, not enough.

2. We didn't play them last year but I hear that Stony Brook is a tough tough team. That will carry them pretty far in this conference.

3. The only way that VMI can be considered a sleeper is if Sparky Woods delivers the pre-game speech. (He has a droning monotonous voice.)

4. Gardner-Webb is good enough to be dangerous for anyone they play.

5. Coastal Carolina isn't.

6. Presbyterian...what can I say? We will struggle...

7. ...but we will still beat Charleston Southern.

happy to see a Presby supporter and another Big South fan posting here. your record over CSU is impressive. over the many years that CSU and Presby have played, Presby, by far, has recored more wins, but from 2005- 2008 the tables have turned. CSU won 3 out of 4 matchups during that time. the improvement since coach Mills arrived has been significant, and i expect the trend to continue. don't bet the farm on a Presby win in 09.

1. Liberty-pissed off at being left out of the playoffs again.
2. Gardner-Webb-if they show up for every game, they'll contend for the top spot.
3. Stony Brook-Tough team
4. VMI-Improving, could be higher on this list.
5. Coastal-Still rebuilding
6. Presbyterian-will manage to upset someone
7. Charleston Southern-can't spell sucks with CSU.

I've got no problem with that. I like to see what an objective eye sees. 3rd should be about right, but don't be surprised if we jump up to 2nd when it all shakes out.
