One of the fastest players in the nation ... has turned himself into one of the nation’s elite cover corners as well ... what he lacks in size, he makes up for with technique and pure speed.

2006: Voted second-team all-Southern Conference by the league’s coaches ... enjoyed a breakout season with two interceptions, nine pass break-ups and 38 tackles on the season ... started every game at right cornerback for the third-straight year ... opened season with four solo tackles at NC State ... matched the same total three weeks later at Gardner-Webb, including first tackle for loss of the season ... returned his first interception of the season 28 yards for a touchdown in blowout win over Elon ... had a stellar day in pass coverage versus Furman, breaking up a season-best three passes and intercepting another en route to the 40-7 route ... saved his best for when it mattered most with four stops (including a TFL) in national semifinal victory over Youngstown State and a season-high five tackles (all solo) in national championship game victory over UMass.

2005: Racked up 49 tackles, 2.5 tackles for loss and three pass break-ups as a sophomore ... notched ASU’s only two blocked kicks of the season (FG vs. Coastal Carolina and punt at Elon) ... recorded at least one tackle in 14-of-15 games and multiple tackles in 13 ... opened season by matching a career high with six stops at Eastern Kentucky ... broke up a pass in addition to the blocked field goal versus nationally ranked Coastal Carolina ... notched 14 tackles in four posteseason games, including four solo stops in national title game ... two of 2.5 TFL for the season came in the playoffs (one vs. Lafayette, one vs. Northern Iowa).

2004: Started every game at right cornerback as a true freshman ... tied for third on the squad with six pass break-ups ... chipped in with 29 tackles (20 solo), including 2.5 for loss ... made three tackles in collegiate debut at Wyoming ... broke up four passes over the first three games, including two versus The Citadel ... snagged a pivotal interception in the fourth quarter of ASU’s heartbreaking loss at nationally ranked Northwestern State ... tallied a career-high six tackles versus Texas State ... made four solo stops and broke up a pass in victory over No. 2 Furman ... registered eight tackles over the final three contests of the season.

High School: Ranked as high as the No. 31 prep hopeful in the state of Georgia by Rivals100.com … named first-team all-region after recording 60 tackles, four interceptions, five pass breakups and a pair of kickoff returns for touchdowns in 2003 … coached by Rodney Hackney … an all-county and all-region choice on the gridiron in 2002 … speedster has been clocked at 10.6 seconds in the 100-meter dash and also boasts the Region 6 record in the long jump with an effort of 23-feet, 4-inches.

Personal: Full name is Jerome L. Touchstone ... born Nov. 19, 1985 (turns 22 during the season) ... son of Shelia Williams ... majoring in management.[/img]

#6 Tyler Joyce
Image

Born: 8/16/1986
Height: 6' 5"
Weight: 224 lbs.
Year: Senior
Major: Journalism
Hometown: Aurora, CO
Previous School: Overland HS

Tyler Joyce will be starting for the third year in a row. He begins his senior year with 241 career tackles, which ties him for 17th with former linebackers Dan Downs and Kurt Schilling, who both played from 1991-94. He has missed just one game in his career, playing in 40 of a possible 41 the past three seasons. He has led Montana in tackles the past two seasons.

2006: He tied with fellow linebacker Kyle Ryan for the team lead with 115 tackles, including a team-high 65 assisted stops. He led the team with 10 pass break-ups. He had seven or more tackles in 13 games.

He started in 13 of 14 games (he was injured at Northern Colorado so he did not start against Montana State), and played in all 14 contests.

He was an honorable mention All-Big Sky Conference selection for the second consecutive year and was one of the reasons that the Griz defense was ranked ninth in the nation in total defense, allowing just 266.4 yards per game.

2005: He was the Grizzlies' leading tackler with 83 stops and started all 12 games at the “Sam” outside linebacker position. He was an All-Big Sky honorable league selection and was ranked 11th in the conference, averaging 6.9 tackles a game.

2004: He was Montana's 15th leading tackler with 43 stops as a “true” freshman and also played on several special teams. He was named to the All-Big Sky academic team.

High School: Joyce was chosen as the 2003 5-A “Defensive Player of the Year” by the Denver Post for his 11-4 and state runner-up team, when he led his Overland High School team in tackles with 104. Named team co-captain as a senior, as well as All-Colorado by both the Denver Post and the Rocky Mountain News.

The winner of “Iron Man Award” and “Blood & Guts Award” as a senior. Tabbed second team all-conference and honorable mention all-state as a junior. An all-conference pick at linebacker and tight end as a senior. His prep football coach was Tony Manfredi. He was a three-year starter in football. He also earned three letters in baseball (outfielder) and was all-conference in that sport as a junior and senior.

Personal: His parents are David Joyce and Terri Harrington of Aurora. His major is journalism. Birth date: August 16, 1986. Tyler is a frequent contributor to MontanaGrizzlies.com with his Joyce's Journal entries submitted throughout the football season and offseason training sessions.

Career Highs: He had 13 tackles against Southern Illinois in a Football Championship Subdivision (I-AA) home quarterfinal game in 2006. His interception was at home in 2005 against Eastern Washington.

Quoting head coach Bobby Hauck: Tyler is another one of those young men who was pressed into service and played for us as a true freshman. It's hard to believe that he's a senior now. He's had a great career to this point, but his best football is in front of him. He's an aggressive, physical player, and he gets downhill on the run. In pass drops he's hard to throw the ball over because of his height and his wing-span. He's also a good tackler in space. We expect him to have a great year. He's really a complete linebacker."
