Texas State defeats Cal Poly 38-35 in San Marcos. Looked like a first game, lots of turnovers and some sloppy play. Bobcats had 480 something yards of offense (351 rushing) against the vaunted Mustang D and RB Stan Zwinggi had 16 carries for 159 yards and 4 TD's including a 93 yard TD in the 1st quarter. Great game for the Bobcats to knock off the ranked Mustangs and our new video board was awesome. Here is the recap from txstatebobcats.com

SAN MARCOS, Texas (AP) -- Stan Zwinggi rushed for 165 yards and four touchdowns, including a school record 92-yard scamper, as Texas State gained 351 rushing yards as a team and overcame four turnovers in a 38-35 win over #15 Cal Poly to open the 2007 season Saturday in front of 13,007 at Bobcat Stadium.

Karrington Bush added 136 yards and a touchdown on 11 carries, while Bradley George completed 14-of-25 passes for 159 yards as Texas State (1-0) amassed 510 yards of total offense in Brad Wright's debut as the Bobcats' head coach.

Cal Poly (0-1) gained 378 yards of its own, thanks largely to Ramses Barden's eight catch, 208 yard performance. Mustang quarterbacks Matt Brennan and Jonathan Dally each threw for over 100 yards and a touchdown, but Cal Poly coughed the ball up three times with an interception and two fumbles.

I tell you what it was a hell of an exciting game. The officiating was horrible but Texas State made plenty of mistakes, such as four turnovers. I was really impressed with the new offensive scheme, other than the mistakes which were opening game problems that should be fixed and the new defensive scheme rocks, with exception of some pass defense issues that need to be addressed. The run defense however was solid as a rock. Special teams also needs work, especially those kick-off's from the 30, not good at all.
