SHSU's Rhett Bomar has been nominated for Play of the Week by the Sports Media Entertainment Network.
HUNTSVILLE, Texas - Following last Saturday's 48-10 victory over Arkansas Monticello, Sam Houston State quarterback Rhett Bomar is getting some national attention for his performance on the field.
The Sports Media Entertainment Network has nominated Bomar's first-quarter touchdown run as one of three "Play of the Week" candidates for Wednesday's show.
With a minute to play in the first quarter, Bomar dropped back to pass and was forced to scramble to his right. With no receivers open, the junior quarterback decided to keep it himself. Inches from stepping out of bounds, Bomar leaped into the end zone for a 7-yard touchdown run. It was one of four touchdowns on the day for Bomar, who also threw for three.
The other two plays nominated this week are Stony Brook's Conte Cuttino's 95-yard kick return for a touchdown and UMass punt returner J.J. Moore's 58-yard punt return for a touchdown. The "Football Championship Show" can be heard every Wednesday from 4 to 6 p.m. The show features highlights and game recaps from around the country, interviews with FCS top performers, game previews and picks of the week. All archives and podcasts are available.
SME also conducts a top 25 poll as voted on by FCS broadcasters around the country. This week the Bearkats moved up two spots to No. 15 in the poll.
