TSN Big Sky Preview
Around FCS: Can Weber State stop Montana's streak?
By David Coulson, FCS Executive Director
Philadelphia, PA (Sports Network) - It is never unwise to select Montana as the title favorite when you are predicting the order of finish in the Big Sky Conference.
The Grizzlies came within a play or two of seeing their 10-year run of winning or sharing the Big Sky championship come to an end last fall, but eventually came up with a share of title number eleven.

The Bears were FCS laughingstocks when they arrived in the Big Sky Conference, but now in their fourth year in the league, coach Scott Downing is starting to narrow the talent gap.

Go UNC! Lets see someone other then the Griz win the Big Sky. About time they had to come down to a SLC school for a playoff game.

HEY NOW. I'm just sick of us Southland teams always getting waxed in the snow. Y'all can make the playoffs as long as it doesn't mean Texas St is playing in WaGriz. Plus it's too expensive to travel there.Ursus A. Horribilis wrote:Done rooting for Texas State-San Marcos now brother.

Re: TSN Big Sky Preview
Where I am so far (usually I bring the final rankings at the end of August, in other words I am still working on it)
1. Montana-on top but not that far
2. Weber State-maybe even with the Griz but this year's game is in Missoula, not Ogden
3. Montana State-less questions than the other teams
4. Eastern Washington-how will the ban hurt them?
5. Northern Arizona-personnel questions but they are usually near the top
6. Sacramento State-have the capabilities to surprise this year
7. Northern Colorado-have the capabilities to surprise next year
8. Portland State-uncertainty at the OC means uncertainty as to what kind of offense is in place
9. Idaho State-improved over last year, but is it enough to avoid the cellar
I'm usually set by the end of July (most of the time, by the end of June), but I still have questions, mainly with EWU, NAU and PSU. I might have to see where everyone is at, even through August.

We haven't played well against the Griz the past few years but just because we don't play well against one team doesn't mean we haven't improved. We lost 5 games last year by 7 points or less.

I agree that UNC is getting better, already in basketball they are respectable. But UNC fans should ignore UM fans talkin smack. Its been almost 50 yrs since they joined a new conference.
BTW, UNC came from DIVISION II!!!!
You were expecting them in the playoffs year 1?

1. Eastern Washington 7-1 <----90% Seniors/BEAT WEBER LAST YEAR
1. Montana 7-1<-----Strong but lose to EWU
3. Weber St. 6-2<------Overrated bc of ONE lucky season, but still good.
4. Montana st. 5-3<------Possibly rise to #3 but mainly dominate the weaker teams in the BSC.
5. NAU 4-4<------Still need a standout QB become dominant again in the BSC.
6. PSU 3-5<-------Mouse Davis' departure will take its toll on a depressed offense.
7. Sacramento st. 3-5<-------Great talent, horrible coaching & LOCAL fan support.
8. NorCol 2-6<-------Getting better but still needs better talent/recruiting to compete.
9. Idaho st. 0-8<-------Great talent, OK coaching, team lacks motivation & work ethic.

EWU always for some reason plays the Griz better in Missoula than in Cheney, but you better do some work on that offense that UM completely shut down last year.

Historically, Eastern's offense is a no holds bar, GUN SLINGING, trick play callin, air show. Mock my words: If Nichols gets into ANY kind of rhythm... you can kiss that big sky title good-bye. Nichols will be the key to Eagle success. It will be a great game either way.....I might fly up.
