Tell Me About The Drive That Sticks Out In Your FCS Mind

Especially, this goes to the guys that played. Cap, D1B, Wedgie, Franks Tanks, Andy, Citdiggity, WR, kem(and some other fuckin' letters), Willie (I know it's not FCS but if you tell the story well I'll forgive you) and anybody else that can relate the story well.
What was the drive that you really remember from your glory days? What were the circumstances? What had your team done (if anything) to set up the particular stellar moment where you hit paydirt and won the game? Did you say anything to the guy in front of you at the penultimate moment?
If you have more than one I'd love to read it. Paint me a picture and make me feel like I was there. Get on it boys...I'm waiting.

Jeeze, there are so many for App over just the past 4 years...the final offensive drive against Michigan, Trey Elder's TD against Delaware, AE's first drive against JMU in 2006...the list could go on. However, I'd have to say the offensive drive that sticks out in my mind the most is from the 2006 NC game against UMass:
App is leading 21-17 with around 9:00 remaining in the game, knowing they must kill as much clock as possible. Everyone in the stadium knows that we've got to run the ball and we do. Kevin Richardson pounds the ball up the middle and around the edges seemingly at will. All off us in my group kept looking at each other, wondering if UMass could stop us. Finally, the Minutemen do make a few stops and App is faced with 3rd and long, still plenty of time on the clock and the ball sitting on the App side of the field. AE drops back and hits freshman Josh Johnson for a first down on a perfect strike for a first down. The Mountaineers milked the clock and scored with 3 or so minutes remaining. We started making our way down to the front of the stands, waiting to make the jump for the second year in a row. Corey Lynch would pick off the final UMass pass to ice the game, sending hoards of obnoxious Yosef's onto the sidelines with only a few seconds remaining.

Yeah Beau, that was a beauty of a drive. Richardson was one hell of back. Good stuff man.

Well we have plenty of room for another thread Catattack if you have a good war story or two.

Well then, fuck all of you. I try to start a thread that I'm sure would have at least some interesting anecdotes, and maybe a funny line or two AND be FCS football realted and you leave me hanging.
Jesus Christ Cap'n, all you wanna do is shine some light on yourself so how could you not put a story up?

That was a good one Beau...frigging clinic on ball-control & game-management. Most exciting was the Michigan. But last year's drive against GaSouth with Armanti plunging over the top to will his team to victory....tell you, he's a gamer....

I remember the week leading up to the NC game in 2004, how everyone thought we didn't have a chance to beat Montana. When we started the drive at the beginning of the 3rd quarter and Rascati capped it with an 11 yard run diving into the end zone, it was the first time during that game I though we actually had a good chance of winning the game.

But your record-setting QB quit on you and left it to Rascati to deliver them to Chatty, so you spent the next weekend Christmas shopping.

Harvard's 95-yard, 4th-quarter drive in 1974 that ended with Milt "Hawaiian Pineapple" Holt's 1-yard sneak for a TD. Harvard 21, Yale 16.

UNI last minute drive v Western Kentucky to wrap up the Gateway in Farley's first season, 2001. Came back late from down 14 or so. Worst fans I ever ran into. Was on the sidelines watching and it was the hardest hitting drive I ever heard or witnessed in my life as a player and fan.

App's final drive at Michigan after the blocked FG. 69 yards, 7 plays in 1:11 with NO TIMEOUTS culminating in a 24 yard field goal from the left hash mark. Probably the guttiest drive I've ever seen.

Reall the only one that sticks out in my mind that i have seen is the SUU drive to comeback and win a tough road game against North Dakota at the Alerus Center, a great game all around and our first road win in a long time

He's talking about the 2004 game TD. They really were a bunch of salty dogs out there and had a great game plan against us and took us pretty decisively in that one in the final two quarters.

Delaware's final drive against Montana in the 1993 playoffs. With the score tied at 42 Montana scored with about 2 minutes to go, but missed the extra point. Delaware got the ball trailing 48-42 and ran down the field. The drive sticks out because the Hens' didn't use a 2-minute offense, but kept running their regular offense as if time was ot an issue. Delaware score a TD, made the extra point, and won 49-48.
Delaware had a fullback named Daryl Brown who I was sure would be playing on Sundays. He never made it although he did have a tryout with the Arizona Cardinals.

Dude I've mentioned to you before that I will never forget that name. Not out of hatred or anything but just the respect I had for him after that game. The blocking schemes that Tubby and his staff used against us, and just the East meets West, High powered running game meets potent passing attack. That was a game I will never forget and although we lost it is one I remember fondly. I was a Delaware, Tubby, Wing T fan from that day on.

For me it is 2006 at Delaware. Our first defensive dismantling of the almighty Joe Flacco. It was an abysmal first half for us and on the sidelines Flacco looked unstoppable. The second half changed that, we shut down the might Blue Hen offense, when we had no shot of playoff hopes, it was all for pride, for both teams. Then the play that will forever remain in my mind, it was 4th down for the Hens and a field goal would have won it for them. Pete Caroppolo rushes the kick and BLOCKS IT!!!!!! I was able to live the moment through one of my best friends and to give Delaware a losing season while we squeaked out a 6-5 season (if memory serves me). Nothing felt better, and to me it was the turning point in the Wildcat debacle that was the seasons prior. Our defense became a force to be feared, when we were always a predominately offense oriented team.
Individually, my only year that I started, freshman year, was my first touch back at URI. When I was not given a shot earlier in the year, through a series of kicker mental breakdowns I got my shot, and proved I could compete in a game to the coaches. I remember Coach Reardon coming out to me like he was going to kill me, but instead knocked me up side the head in an encouraging way. I got to start at a division 1 football level for half a season (although that led to my suspension the next year, and ultimately led to me never seeing the field again . Long story) It was a feeling I would never forget.

Awesome Wide, glad to see at least one guy could take the time to tell a story and let us in on the inside working of it from the player perspective. Thanks man, I appreciate it.

National Championship game
Marshall's Chris Parker scores to put the Herd up 20-19 with something like 3 minutes left. Whole stadium is going crazy. Announcer on ESPN says they just left too much time for the best quarterback in the country. They were right. Beginning on the 35(?) the Griz drive to their destiny. A few plays later they are faced with a 4th and 8 as the entire 36,000 Marshall fans are screaming and can smell another national title. Super Dave Dickenson fires over the middle and hits Mike Erhardt who holds on for dear life. The rest is history. 22-20.

I was working on a house next to Erhardt's last summer and told him thanks for holding on to that ball again for about the 30th time.
That's my greatest drive as well buddy. I was lucky enough to be there and see it in person as 27,000 Marshall fans went limp and 3-4000 Griz fans went crazy. What a fuckin' day man.

I was there as well. So was the pain in my forearm as my dad squeezed it when Erhardt pulled that in.
I'll never forget some guy with a handle bar mustache and a Marshall sweatshirt after the game: "Merry f*ckin Christmas." Ahhh Marshall fans
If I remember correctly Bill Clinton called Dickenson to talk about this drive so we know it was Slick Willy's fav too.

Yep, they played that at Dahlberg on Sunday when they retired DD jersey the day after the game. Never forget the after party at the track behind the field when our local distributor called the distributor from Huntington and said fill a beer truck and get it down there. Fucking Awesome! NC and free beer, it don't get any better than that.

Now for one that didn't go the Griz way.
Chatty. December 16 2000. 49 degrees raining and the field was a mud pit. GSU runs the first half like clockwork. First play a 73 yard run to the UM 7, sets the tone for how this was supposed to play out. Paul Johnson at the helm. JR Revere in at QB and Adrian Peterson doing what he always did. 318 yards of offense in the first half and GSU leads the Griz 20-3. That lead holds midway through the 3rd quarter. GSU fans are already headed to the parking lot to celebrate number 6.
Then out of nowhere, the Griz show up to put on a comeback clinic. UM strikes with a 17 yard pass TD with 3:41 left in the 3rd. GSU D holds and UM has to punt.... OH NOOOO Montana fakes the punt on their own 35 and marches down to cap that drive with another TD just seconds into the 4th quarter.
20-16 GSU still on top and receives the kick off. Some tool for Montana named Brannen strips the ball and has possesion at the 18 of GSU. Just five plays later Montana finds paydirt and goes ahead for the first time 23-20 Montana.
Remember the edge UM had on the Eagles. The Eagles are held to a paltry 72 yards and only 2 first downs in the second half. Montana 298 yards and 15 first downs.
Nothing GSU tried was working. It was like trying to run through a brick wall, until Adrian Peterson asked his linemen in the huddle for a crease. He didn't need a hole, just give a a sliver of daylight. They did and AP ripped open that brick wall of Montana with a 57 yard game saver. That run is known among Eagle fans as The Son of the Run. Game ended 27-25 GSU, and 6th National Championship.

Man that was an awesome game btk. AP was so GD special. I thought it was pretty cool that he had Joe Glenn sitting in his corner or as "coach" escort when he won the Payton. Joe talked about when he first met AP and was so impressed with him.
That's another one that I wish had went our way but I was glad to witness such a great game. The guy that ran that fake punt is a friend of mine and if you saw him in a bar out of his pads and shit I wouldn't be able to convince you that he played for the Griz.
