A summation from the
GSU message board.
"Georgia Southern University could successfully make the transition from NCAA FCS to FBS from a
competitive athletic perspective. There is much less confidence in the financial capability to meet
the challenge of existing in the high cost and high inflation rate that comes with NCAA FBS."
So, we can compete, but we don't have the ability to raise the funds.

In other words: We aren't going anywhere.
There are plently of teams that can compete, but that doesn't mean it makes sense to do so. Cash rules everything around me.....

somone tell GA Southern $$ has always been the diff between FBS and FCS
instead of FCS n FBS they shoulda changed it from I-A n I-AA to I-$ and I-$$
I-A=I-$$
I-AA=I-$
i think that is just as confusing as the A's and FCS/FBS to fans.

Exactly. The top half of every conference, minus the SWAC, would have found the same thing, but they're special. They're GSU.

So the real question is this: how much did GSU spend on these so-called "consultants".
I assume a feasibility study like this costs at least $50,000-$100,000. I could have done it for a free trip to the Albany vs. GSU game (with spending cash) and the remaining $43,000 could have been put towards making a good FCS program a little better.

You guys are all correct, they arent moving anywhere. The research they have take is telling them; thebest profit margin will come from a dominant FCS team. The FCS stadards/monies involved are lower and there stadium is paid for, and theres no point to expand it.

Not a member on them btk what's the synopsis from the learned flock. Fans know a lot more than coaches and the administration from what I've seen in the past.

A partial post by GSURadio:
He told us that he has always said that moving up to BCS was never an "if" situation but rather "when." He closed by saying that at the present time with present economic situations, if the choice is enhancing the football program or saving jobs, families, and livelihoods, he would choose the later and will as long as he is President of Georgia Southern University.
Dr. Core relayed some information on the study which will be available online now at
www.georgiasouthern.edu/athleticstudy
The bottom line was that Georgia Southern was compared with other SoCon schools, SunBelt, ACC, SEC, and Conference USA schools and were near the bottom in budget rankings with just over 9 million currently. The report in a nutshell says the the school would need another 10 million annually to sustain a BCS level program. Budget would need to be 20 million annually. Again not a 10 million infusion but rather a 10 million annual addition just to operate.
Core finished his talk with stating that the school is currently 9 needs to be 20, you can see where the problem is.......
Sam thanked us for coming and said that it is important to remember that such a move will be decided on by many different departments and levels at the University before any decision to make the move is made. Sam said that Dr. Grube was clear from the start that no move would be made on the backs of current and future students and student fee would not be the answer. Private and Corporate donations, increased tickets sales, etc would be the way to move to the next level.

Well see, I didn't you didn't have to be a member. I have read that board before but the GSU fans were disguised as Griz fans, App. St. fans, and so forth...
I love the fan hierarchy when it comes into play.

Well your last post there seems pretty logical. I know you brought it over for our perusal and all but I can only imagine the "move up" braintrust has many, many answers as to how it can all be done without really doing any work on the issue.
I do love the fringe fans they are so comical when they get an idea in their heads.

Brother Bear, that was from the announcer (gsuradio) he was reporting on a meeting of the higher ups held. The "braintrust" you speak of is anything but calm right now. Both the stay put and the move-ups are having a holy war. Been that way since 2PM. Let me give you a linky.

Oh yeah that's good stuff btk, good stuff indeed. It's funny how ridiculous some of the arguments look when you don't really have a dog in the fight and just look at it pragmatically.
One guy actually said that GSU would more than cover the extra 11 million nut per year on ticket sales alone moving to FBS. Let's do that math real quick...let's overestimate ticket prices @ $40/pop.
11 000 000 / 40 = 275 000 more fans per year needed.
That's really only 30 to 40,000 more fans a game so it seems doable with his scenario.
