Has Bobby Hauck Lost Control of the Griz?

With all the off-field issues that have been well documented, and now continual ON-field issues (penalties, poor play, unsportsmanlike play, stupid play)....I'm beginning to wonder if BH hasn't completely lost this team.

19 starters back, they should be blowing teams OUT. And yet, we seem to struggle to win each and every game. We got WORKED by Eastern yesterday, and got damned lucky to get out of Wa/Griz with our record intact. We won't get that lucky every week.

The Griz keep winning, but they keep dropping in my poll.

I'm not the only Bobcat fan who hopes that Bobby Hauck remains the Grizzlies head football coach for a long time. ;)

(This thread was also started on AGS, so I'm copying over the same reply I made there):

Eastern Washington is a much better team than they were last year; all those talented Freshman are now Sophomores.

The off-the-field issues were more isolated incidents. And besides, nobody's been convicted of anything yet (Qwenton Freeman was actually acquitted of misdemeanor assault).

The Griz have actually been much better at not getting penalized than they were last year.

Remember, how a team looks in the regular season doesn't mean much. The 1995 Griz barely looked like a playoff team (9-2 w/ 3 DII wins; gave up 55 in a loss to Idaho) & then they won the title. Close game experience is also valuable. Remember what happened to dominant-looking Southern Illinois & Georgia Southern in 2004?

I didn't respond to you over there, but I will here: Eastern's freshmen may be sophmores, but our talented Juniors are now seniors!!!

At what point (or what #) do incidents no longer become isolated?

The Griz were better at not being penalized when playing cupcakes. Now that their schedule has stepped up, so have the mistakes.

All I can say is this: If this team continues to play like this, shoot itself in the foot on offenive series, and give the opposing offense multiple chances because of stupid penalties, they won't win the conference, let alone any playoff games. I'm not looking for blowouts, but how about a game in which they actually look GOOD in a win? Is that too much to ask?

When they actually have something to do with each other. I guess it would be great if Coach Hauck could have seen that Jimmy Wilson would blow away his aunt's boyfriend in a fit of rage while on summer vacation in California (if that's even what happened), but i don't see how he could have. None of the Griz players allegedly involved in wrongdoing have any known gang connection or are operating any sort of drug ring, unlike the situation that existed in, say, Bozeman.

I'm not sure if Southern Utah is a cupcake, given what happened in Bozeman, & Albany certainly isn't a cupcake.

Maybe they won't win the conference if they keep making mistakes, but who else in the BSC is capable of giving the Griz as good of a game as EWU did on Saturday? The only team that could throw for 565 yards is Portland State, but they can't run or play defense & they're way more mistake prone than Montana. It may not always be pretty, but I'd still favor the Griz to win every game through the end of the regular season.

The only aspect of the Griz football team I've been disappointed with is the O-line. Most of the penalties have come from them & they need to open a lot more holes in the running game, particularly up the middle. If they start to do that consistently, then I don't think Montana's opponents have much of a chance.

Sorry, I meant 451 passing yards (565 was the total offense for EWU).

Don't you find it ironic that THAT was supposed to be one of, if not THE, biggest strength of this team? :(

I think I'd like a rematch with the Griz.

I don't know if the O-Line is supposed to be the biggest strength; that would probably be the linebacking corps, who haven't disappointed. But, I do agree, the Griz O-Line has played below expectations for the third straight year.
