"We expect right at 17,000," said UNI athletic director Rick Hartzell. "Capacity of the building is 16,800, so we'll have a little bit for standing-room."

"Meanwhile, anyone unable to secure a seat for the game is being offered the option of watching it on the big screen video board inside the McLeod Center."

Serious question: How would U of Montana draw with a Big 12 and a Big 10 school located within the State's borders??

How would they draw if they were competing with a team that's on tv every week, vs. themselves being on statewide tv very infrequently??

U of Iowa, and to a lesser extent, Iowa State get 10x the media coverage in Iowa than UNI does. You simply don't have that kind of competition to deal with in Montana. You are the state's football team. Same thing in North Dakota, South Dakota, Delaware, New Hampshire etc.

It's no use, Joe.

Having a similar situation in Colorado with CU, CSU, Air Force and Wyoming all within a two hour drive I am impressed with how well UNI draws.

This should be a great game and with a sell-out the dome should be rocking! Remember also, that Montana only had 900,000 people in the whole state to support 2 FCS teams and 6 NAIA teams.

P.S. I hope that UNI get more support now that they are clearly the best team in Iowa! :D

The million dollar question! Hard to tell, but I can tell you that you have A LOT more people in your state than we do.. so gotta factor that in. While we don't have any major Div. 1 colleges within our borders, we have Washington St. and Idaho very near by (I know, UNI and the Griz both outdraw those schools...), but yeah.. population definitely has to be factored. Regardless, my comment was in jest.. it's good you guys pack your dome to capacity.

This is awesome to see this news about the high attendance numbers at Gateway schools.
2 weeks ago YSU had 19,700+ vs. Missouri State
Last Week SIU nearly sold out with 14,000
Now this week UNI will sell out with 17,000

Go Gateway!

I suppose it's possible that the Penguins might beat a Farley-coached Panther team,
there can be a first time for anything...

9/29/01 Youngstown State......W, 30-11
10/19/02 at Youngstown State....W, 22-7
11/1/03 Youngstown State........W, 47-9
10/16/04 at Youngstown State..W, 22-20
10/29/05 Youngstown State........W, 21-7
10/21/06 at Youngstown State..W, 31-23

But first, the Salukis this Saturday

Here is why I think this is the best year we can beat you. Most of our players experienced the snubbing 2 years ago when we did not make the playoffs with an 8-3 record. The Penguins will fight for their lives by doing their absolute all to beat the Panthers. They know if they don't beat them, they may not make the playoffs....

The Pens are very good this year and they will come ready to play. Meanwhile, not only do we have to beat SIU, we have a date in Macomb with the heartbreaker LeatherHeads between games v the Dawgs and Pens. Frankly, I'm more worried about that one than either of the other two. Not foreseeing SIU or UNI go through the conference 6-0.

YSU better clean up their act or they will get destroyed in 2 weeks when they travel to the pUNIDome.

YSU Attendance Tonight was 16,700.... And they all stayed til the last play as SUU missed a FG with about a minute to play that would've gave them the lead.. but like most teams, NOT UNI, they could not win in the Ice Castle! We literally ICED the KICKER!
