How was the officiating?

SLC officiating is a joke and has now become the 'training ground' for Big 12 wannabe officials. I have to say it was better than normal last night but still had a few questionable calls. How say the rest of you?

I especially liked this "non-call"

Before you get your panties in a bunch, this is our receiver, after a pick by their D. The guy that got it is cropped out.

No real problems with officiating last night in Norfolk.

The Montana/Western game was sloppy...

there were no less than 5 delay of game calls (play clock running down)
at least 10 illegal motion calls
a few illegal formation calls
a variety of 15 yarders
an offsides on a kick-off

etc.. etc...

Most games have a couple of non-call/bad calls... Saw a few yesterday, but I tend to not get upset about them. I just don't expect the crew to see everything every play. But on a play like the one in catmoms image, there should have been a couple of refs looking right there. Perhaps none had the appropriate angle?

The refs had to have an eye on this, I would think. How many, I don't know but they had to be following the ball after the int. Regardless, we did get the ball back on a 3 & out. Here's another questionable one. You make the call

Not my pics so I posted the link

PS - he landed out of bounds from the hips up.

No bad calls in Corvallis (PSU/Oregon State). I thought really excellent officiating. So much that I wish we could get that crew in Missoula in two weeks. :D

Sounds like it was the PLAYERS that were sloppy in that one, not the officials.

There were a couple bad calls in our game, but that's to be expected in the BSC. One alleged PI call gave the little wolfpups an extra 30 yards putting them on the 2 yd line.

The UMass game was not broadcast on any TV outlet, so the only bad call I heard of on the radio was an offensive pass interference that negated a UMass TD...

According to the radio announcers, they don't even show replays in the stadium on any call that could be "questionable" so they never saw it a second time...

Other than that, it apparently was a pretty well called game...

They did that in the SLC the first year/two we had our video board. Seems like last night they showed everything. Even the very excellent acting job by their punter. Cecille B. would be proud

I was wondering if anyone knew the answer to this. At the Griz game on the Saturday the Griz called a wide receiver screen. The ball was touched by the Montana receiver but he was then hit so the ball was in the air. A Montana Lineman caught the ball and ran for some yards before he fell. After a discussion by the refs they threw a flag for illegal touching by the Griz. My question to you guys is, was that the correct call? I thought if the ball was touched by an eligible receiver anyone could touch it after that

I think (and that should scare you right away)
I think he was called for advancing a ball that was previously in the hands of a team mate - that was not a lateral....

We didn't have MEAC officials so the officiating wasn't as bad as it could've been...

Really good officiating crew at the UNC-The Citadel game. It was an ACC crew. Only had one issue with a call that didn't affect game play.

I found myself thinking, "Enjoy it while you can.... it's back to SoCon refs in a few weeks."

I might have disagreed with some of the calls/non-calls.

But to the officials credit, they did correctly officiate the endgame situation with the blocked FG, properly giving UNI another try. And that is a pretty big credit, because about 99.5% of the people there had no knowledge of that rule, so they probably could have declared game over and gotten away with it.

JayJ - that's classy coming from a UNI fan... because I'll say it as an NDSU fan who watched on tv... you guys done got JOBBED by those Big Ten zebras...

From the time they took the field to start the second half to damn near the end of the game, the refs seemed to call every bit of UNI forward momentum back on penalties... it was insane... and the BTN announcers knew it too, but said nothing... they were bigger homers than the refs.

but take it from me, just like the EKU-Indiana game... the BIg Ten refs were desperate to keep their conference from "getting embarrassed"
