EWU receiver switched to D-Line!?

EWU receiver Brynsen Brown has been moved to the D-Line:
http://www.spokesman.com/blogs/sportsli ... n-defense/
Brynsen Brown, a three-year letterwinner as a wide receiver on Eastern Washington University’s football team, has been moved to the Eagles’ defensive line.
I didn’t get a chance to talk to Brown about the position change, but Eastern coach Bean Baldwin said he is catching on quickly.
The article doesn't give much detail. Questin for you Eagle fans: is this move due to lack of depth on the D-Line or did Brynsen lose a step and isn't cutting it at WR anymore? I seem to remember him being a pretty good receiver...

Brown was the #2 reciever, so this move is VERY unexpected. Lance , J. Bell, & Greg Peach were all d line starters & all seniors, so im sure theres a huge hole to fill there. again... hopefully it works out.

I have no clue... I didn't hear about this until now. This is a big WTF!? I mean, we have a lot of depth at WR and I'm going to assume that freshman Nicolas Edwards (6'3, 200lbs) is going to be a starter now, but why move a talented WR to a new position his senior year!? I don't know if he had line experience in HS, but this just doesn't make sense, lack of depth on the D-line or not.

I didn't know that... must've been 2006 only, because he's been WR since.

Wow that is kind of a shocker. Man Brown was a tough receiver and I remember cursing his name many times in the past. It would seem like you would want to bring one of the young guys in at that position but I'm sure the coach has a whole lot better handle on what is best for his team than I do. Surprising move though.

Well, that's one way to try and beat the O-Line off the ball. Then again, he will no longer be privy to the snap count.

I hope he hits the stuffing out of "B-Wags" on Saturday.
By the way, that nick name you guys have for him reminds me of Stewie calling Brian "B to the Ry."

Moving a WR to D-Line is rather odd, but I did read this a few weeks ago on the
EWU message board:
Nick Edwards is going to be an eventual star WR. He's beaten out Brynsen Brown, who is out of shape. Edwards may not get a lot of balls this year because of Boyce, Davis and Overbay, but he'll be set up for a great next three years.

I'll go ahead ans assume we're talking DE and not DT. Fast up field rush could be hard to defend. A speed rush specialist maybe?

Yes, definitely DE. That's what I was thinking, especially if he's put on some weight like I've heard. I hope it pans out for the best.

I definitely agree with that statement... Edwards is a big physical receiver with good hands... much like Boyce. I think before it's all said and done (pending our starting QB next year is halfway decent), he'll be better than AB.

Hopefully he'll get a couple balls in the endzone, then rub'em in NCU's face!

I've seen QBs move to WR. Sac had a QB move to TE and another to WR and then TB. WRs become DBs all the time. Back in the day, ends played both ways on the line with HBs playing what we would now call corner. But a modern WR move to DL? Never heard of it. I'd suspect he's playing end, though, expected to get around the OT quick. I'd hate to see a receiver-sized guy dumped at nose. The results would be REALLY ugly.
