Best 20 Stadiums in FCS

I decided after reading Blackfalkins ridiculous list that I would make up my own. I picked stadiums that I thought would be a great place to see a game, as well as provided a good experience for the teams that played there. I put a very heavyr emphasis on stadiums that were on campus, as I think that has a huge affect on the experience.

#20 Missouri State (Nice modern and a good size)

Image

#19 William & Mary (Beautiful brick stadium in the midst of a lovely campus)

Image

#18 Furman (Another very nice field on a great campus)

Image

#17 Elon (A little small, but really really nice)

Image

#16 South Caroline State (Good size, on campus)

Image

#15 Alabama State (Big, nice and classic)

Image

#14 Lafayette (Renovated Jewel, nestled into campus)

Image

#13 Georgia Southern (Just a perfect smaller field, very pretty)

Image

#12 The Citadel (Another very nicely refubished stadium good size, but just off campus)

Image

#11 Lehigh (Great on campus stadium)

Image

#10 Delaware (A little long in tooth, but impressive on campus stadium)

Image

#9 Old Dominion (Beautiful renovation, and in the heart of campus)

Image

#8 Southern University (Nice new endzone complex, 29,000 seats)

Image

#7 University of Pennsylvania (Huge, historic, on campus)

Image

#6 UT-Chattanooga (home to the National Championship Game)

Image

#5 Appalation State (Big and Beautiful, spectactular location)

Image

#4 Harvard University (the grandaddy of them all)

Image

#3 Yale University (the first of all the Bowls)

Image

#2 University of Montana (cool field, great location, awesome size)

Image

#1 Princeton University (Just the Best)

Of course im just a biased Wildcat fan, but I think Weber State's Stewart Stadium is a nice on campus facility, holds 18,000 ( unfortunately it never gets that number) has a brand new Scoreboard with a video board, and very nice Pressbox and suites. and also has a nice view of the valley, the Wasatch Front, and the Great Salt Lake.

Missouri state is not modern. Home side seems pretty old, and away side is metal bleachers....

Very true....
One that has the opposite effect is Cal Poly. Looks like shit on the visitor side when empty... But once it's chalk full of fans you can't tell what it looks like.

No YOUNGSTOWN STATE? Ahhh come on!

It doesn't need to be #1, because that is where Montana should be, but how could you exclude the Ice Castle?!?!
When we did the rankings on this site, it came out to #2 behind UM and just in front of Chattanooga.

The stadium is too lopsided, only two sided, and located in Ohio. That's a lot to overcome.

If YSU could get the Visitors side to be bigger, I know there is an issue with where it is located, it would be higher in my book. The size difference between sides gives it a big HS feel

I don't know if its "easily" the best stadium.

Have you been to Montana? That stadium is ridiculous.

Princeton is nice and all, but I don't think it is as nice as Montana or even App State.

5 of the top 20 have tracks around them, most FCS stadiums do.

Even FBS's do, big ones like Pac10 schools, U-dub, even the Rose Bowl.

Rose Bowl DOES NOT have a track.
UW is taking away their track
I think the only other two are Mizzou & North Texas

The track just takes away from the experience IMO

In FT's mind, anything west of Pennsylvania isn't relevant.

Hardly-- I put Montana at number 2. It would be number 1 if the expansion was a bit more consistent (I think that end zone seating is a bit weird). Also I dont like the fact that the endzone seats raise higher than the sidelines seats, as everyone knows sideline seats give better views of the action. IF you include game day atmosphere Montana is easily number 1 with APP probably 2nd. App's stadium is also great, the track just bothers me a bit.

I am not so provincial to dis-credit a stadium just because its in Montana-- laughable. In fact on the other thread I urged the Falkin to include Cal-Davis on the list which he missed previously.

I understand if someone claims that Montana isnt the best at everything in FCS griz nation goes banannas... grow up. Is your infreiority complex that great?

Princeton's stadium is just perfectly proportioned, big, and still pretty much brand new so it gets my vote

when did MplsBison come back?

Guinny... sorry but Stambough Stadium - nice as it is... looks like a a girl with lopsided cans... you can only be so hot with that impairment... symmetry is part of the essence of beauty

i would flip montana and princeton... montana is the essence of a college stadium - you can see the evolution over time, the additions and modifications - part of what makes college football great is the tradition and history... which is why the FFD is nowhere near this list, sadly.

I think Aggie Stadium at UC-Davis needs to be on this list - as does Jax St. - and maybe TX St.

Well if you are heavy on tradition and are looking for the essense of a college stadium then Harvard Stadium must be your pick.

It was the very first "real" college FB stadium and it is stil great (minus sitting on concrete)

But keep in mind the acoustics of UM's stadium has sound in mind when they installed the seats no doubt. It's the loudest stadium in the nation.

considering it's the reason the football field never was widened (as had been planned and was discussed at length) yeah... it's probably 1 or 2 on my list

Kansas has a track around their field too.
