How did it end? I missed it. Did EWU just choke? Looks like they almost had it in Missoula. I gues yall were right about EWU playing well at UM.

Griz scored with 1:18 left. EWU turned the ball over on downs at midfield with about 35 seconds left.

I thought both teams played well, neither team beat themselves either, IMHO. No real turnovers but some idiotic and crazy penalties, ball spots, etc. And some breaches in concentration on both sides as well.

But these are two very capable playoff level teams. I think the BSC will deserve a 3rd team in the playoffs this year.

I'm thinking UM, NAU, Weber.... but if eligable EWU might slip in under UM.

That will be tough. Weber will be on the bubble unless they win out (including in Missoula). EWU & NAU still have to play each other in Flagstaff, and EWU can't afford to lose another game. Weber & NAU still have to play, too.

My feeling (for what is worth) after watching UM / EWU @ WAGRIZ today is that UM will be beat by WSU.... yes, at home. EWU,with the unfortunate loss of Boyce, will get rolled by NAU @ Flagstaff and be done. If UM wins out after the loss to the Weebs, like they should, then the huge game is WSU vs NAU. Will WSU take a large dump and lose to NAU as they did against EWU last year thus giving the Griz the autobid, or will they nut up and win one for some salamander named Moroni therefore giving the Sky pretty much the same playoff situation we had last year? My bets are not with the salamander.

Based on today, I'm not overly worried about UM losing to Weber for 3 reasons:

  • 1. EWU always plays better in Missoula than pretty much anywhere else.

    2. Weber hasn't won in Missoula in 22 years.

    3. Montana's bend-but-don't-break defensive philosophy matches up better with a Weber team that likes to go for the big passing plays.

I thought it was a great game. I also felt that the officiating was really horrible. There were some really horrible calls made against both teams, but I felt that there were 2 or 3 really bad calls that went against EWU in the 4th that could have been game-changers. I think either team could have won that game, honestly.

The officiating was pretty bad... I hate BSC refs. But the thing that killed us was special teams. Our ST play is just terrible, and the Griz took advantage. That was the difference in the game. Defensively we played a decent game, offensively we out-played the Griz. But giving up great field position and that Mariani return for a TD was the difference in the game.

I was pleasantly surprised to see Jones gash the Griz D for as many yards as he did. I expected him to put up around 100, but 145 is nice too! :thumb: The kid is FAST!!!

From what I saw in the first half, the refs were awful.

Good game Eags - glad to have you in the review mirror.

Does anyone else think Mariani stepped out of bounds on that punt return?

I didn't have a clear view of it, but it looked close. I wouldn't be surprised if he did.

Well I've watched it at least 10 times now and I don't see him stepping out, in fact it only appear like he was close on 2 steps. Here are the pics that i could cull from the video.

Hard to tell on the highlights because they show a back camera and don't show his feet...

If you have the time, the game's entire vid is posted here.

Thanks fellas. I took the 3 steps where he was closest and got the other one that looks close from the side angle and he isn't as close at he looked to be from the back angle perspective on the one with his right foot.

I was on the sidelines in the endzone he was running towards and watched the whole thing. He did not step out, close but didn't!

All I know is, we keep spottin' teams 8, 10 or 14 point leads and it's gonna come back and bite us in the ass. :coffee:

Eastern came into Missoula with that powerful offense and did something that they did not do against Weber, turn the ball over. Jones is the fastest Big Sky back I have seen in years and the Griz need to shore up their pass D when Weber comes to town. Loudest crowd I have heard since UMass.... :thumb:

weber's only had 1 good team in 22 yrs - last yr.

WSU's Wildcat Club and student club - Purple Pak - will both be heading to Missoula on Halloween in busses. We are excited for the rematch! (please dont put us in the endzone seats again)

Im hoping for the most fun halloween of my life...and not the worst weekend of my life like last year. we lost at UM in the playoffs, and then the damn bus broke downn in deerlodge, MT and we were stuck in the twighlight zone.
