Patriot League Basketball tournament
Fairly exciting night in the first round of the PL tourny tonight... with the winner probably heading to the dreaded play-in game...
#1 Lehigh 64 - #8 Army 45 - game was closer than the score would indicate... Lehigh was only up 2 with 8 minutes to go before pulling away
#7 Holy Cross 67 - #2 Bucknell 64
#3 Lafayette 73 - #6 Colgate 65 (Lafayette's first trip to semis since 2003)
#4 American leads #5 Navy 48-46 with just under 6 to go in the second half - winner gets Lehigh.

Best I can tell from the Twitter feed... the Lafayette game seems to have been a blowout that Colgate kept getting within 10 but never much closer than that.
Great weekend coming up for college sports fans in the Lehigh Valley - EIWA wrestling tournament Saturday and Sunday and then Lehigh and Lafayette will host Patriot League semifinals on Sunday.

American finished off Navy - beating them 62-60. Should be an exciting semifinal weekend!

Unless there are some upsets, I don't see the PL champ in the playin game

Army let the air out of the ball tonight against Lehigh. Score at halftime was 20-18 Black Knights. Reed obviously made adjustments at the half, but curious as to why it took so long to make them. Mountain Hawks played with a lot more intensity the second half as well.
I am glad we're playing American on Sunday night. Navy beat us twice in the regular season. We just don't match up well with them. Not that the Eagles will be easy, but just seems we play with more confidence against them. CJ McCollum was awesome in the second when the team needed to be lifted. He poured in 17 second half points. Received his ROTY and POTY awards in pregame ceremony.

Unfortunately, the ESPN bracketologist doesn't agree with you. He has Lehigh/Jackson State as the opener. Lot of hoops to play before that happens though.dbackjon wrote:Unless there are some upsets, I don't see the PL champ in the playin game

Will you be at the semi? Looking like Easterns is out for me - can't justify the kids getting home at midnight or later, and can't spend the whole day at Lehigh without bringing one along... I'm much more of a hoops fan anyway.ngineer wrote:Army let the air out of the ball tonight against Lehigh. Score at halftime was 20-18 Black Knights. Where you coming from? EIWA tourney usually over by 5:30 p.m. on Saturday and same on Sunday. Semi bball starts at 8 p.m.--just enough time to get the arena turned over. With two full days at the tournament, not sure if I will have the time to go back Sunday night.

Coming in from North Jersey - about 1:45 away. The Saturday matches conflict with Kard Kid's bball practice. Thinking about hitting the morning session then getting back for practice.ngineer wrote:Where you coming from? EIWA tourney usually over by 5:30 p.m. on Saturday and same on Sunday. Will definitely be a gametime decision though.

My hearing up in Columbia County (a 2 hour drive) on Monday morning has been postponed, so I may be able to get to the "STAR" Sunday night, too!!

#3 Lafayette holds off #7 Holy Cross 66-63 when HC missed a 3 pointer at the buzzer.
#1 Lehigh plays American tonight at 8. If Lehigh wins, they host Lafayette, if American wins, they go to Lafayette. Either way, the Championship game will take place in the Lehigh Valley - the PL has to be hoping for a Lehigh/Lafayette final though.

Lehigh clobbered American tonight, running out to an 11-0 start and never looked back, winning 79-57. Stage now set to host Lafayette, late Friday afternoon at 4:45 p.m at Stabler ARena. Game will also be televised live on ESPN2. Both schools won big in their own houses in the regular season. Lehigh's win tonight tied the school record for most wins in a season with 21 (now 21-10).

Re: Patriot League Basketball tournament
Just got home from Stabler. Great game tonight - first one I've seen in person. Lehigh struggled a little early on - they must have missed 5 or 6 shots in the paint in the first 10 minutes. It looked like we were on our way to the classic "we're not playing well, but we're still in it" halftime speech, but then Lehigh broke it open and the second half was basically one big countdown.
Scary play late when an American player leaped up to intercept a pass and ended up coming down hard on his lower back and his head. His head hit the floor so hard that the whole arena groaned and they blew the whistle to stop play. Fortunately he was moving right away and got up fairly quickly, so hopefully he's fine.
Now its Lehigh/Lafayette for the PL title and a ticket to the Dance. It truly doesn't get better than this!

Wow, that's awesome. "The Rivalry" with a ticket to the Dance on the line.
Good luck to the 'Pards.
There can only be one LU, and it's in Virginia. Show 'em who's boss, LC.

Seeing as how Lehigh is 106 years older than Liberty, I think we know which one the REAL LU isToTheLeft wrote:Wow, that's awesome. "The Rivalry" with a ticket to the Dance on the line.

Re: Patriot League Basketball tournament
Well, you had your chance to beat us and prove your worth, but the 6-3 win in baseball is all I needed to see.
Liberty is the real LU. Lambuth, Lipscomb, Lehigh, Lee, get in line. Maybe we'll let you have it on a bye week.

Big game is tomorrow. I have a court appearance in Philly at 2 p.m. and hoping like hell the judge lets us out of there by 3 p.m. Will be able to make it then. If not, the good ol' DVR will have to do its job as I listen on the SureKill Expressway...

Lehigh 74 - Lafayette 59
That's just the way it oughta be - Lehigh pulling away, and the Lafayette folks facing another "long" bus ride back to Easton!

Re: Patriot League Basketball tournament
Well the Judge didn't cut us loose until 4:30 p.m.--so I actually drove by the Goodman campus with about 6 minutes to go in the game listening on the radio. They announce the crowd at around 4300, but on TV (I DVR'd the game) the place looked pretty full, and it holds 5600. I would have estimated closer to 5000 (as a couple hundred seats have been eliminated at courtside on both sides--the front row now DD (AA-CC) not folded out).
I think the MHawks will acquit themselves well where ever they get sent--most like facing Syracuse or Kansas. If Lehigh can get another decent sized guy to replace Carrington, they're going to be pretty good for the next couple years, barring injuries.
