WINSTON-SALEM — An era of good intentions will end today at Wake Forest amid sentiments of an opportunity missed, a time of great and unfulfilled expectations and a feeling of what could have been.

We'll never know how it would've turned out. It's a sad day in a sense, because what Skip Prosser and Dino Gaudio set out to do worked. It just didn't quite take.

Wake Forest will announce the hiring of Jeff Bzdelik this morning, ending the great basketball experiment started by Prosser in 2001 that was going to make the Deacons basketball program a national name.
I still don't get this hiring. I would like to see Wake succeed, but this hiring just doesn't make sense--based on what Wellman had said when firing Gaudio.

I'm like you on this, I just don't get it. Had to be personal issues between Wellman and Gaudio, and clearly Wellman (in hiring his buddy with a huge losing record) certainly plays favorites. Hopefully this guy will turn this skeptic around once I learn to pronounce his name.

 Well, perhaps Wellman knows what he's doing somewhat, he did hire Jim Grobe. But, I think this is all about favortism in the hiring. Maybe this time Bzbelik will actually win. I'm like you, I hope Wake will be successful (although that would have not been the case had they hired Wojo).
