UNI basketball
UNI is now 3-1 in the MVC after a lack luster non-conf season. Wins include ending long losing streaks to Creighton and SIU on the road as well as a home win over Wichita State. After an Illinois state loss, UNI is now tied for first. Too bad we blew the first conf game. We were down 17 at the half and lost in 2 OT.

Re: UNI basketball
Guess we're tied for 2nd. It was a bad non conf season.
Re: UNI basketball
Now 6-1 in valley play and in soul possession of 1st after making last years Cinderella Drake look like a high school team. UNI was up by 37 at one point in the game, and had they wanted too, could have won by 40-50

Re: UNI basketball
HUGE win for the panthers last night. Panthers defeated Bradley 66-61 to claim an outright first half title, even though it means nothing. The Panthers move to 7-1 in conference and drop Bradley to 5-3 and a three way tie for second.

UNI moves to 8-1 in conference, 8 wins in a row, and 14-6 overall, after picking up a win to sweep the season series against the Missouri State Bears tonight.

Re: UNI basketball
UNI takes down Illinois St. who had been receiving votes for the top 25. For the second straight Wednesday it was Valley #1 vs. #2 in the McCleod Center with the good guys coming out on top. UNI moves to 9-1 in conference and 15-6 overall. The Redbirds fall to 17-4 and 6-4 in conference. The loss drops ISU 3 games back with 8 games left. Bradley, assuming they hold on tonight remains 2 games back, with UNI holding the tie break at this point

Re: UNI basketball
And another win for the Panthers. Their 10th win in a row comes today as they avenge their last loss. The win at Indiana State, on Team Appreciation Day for the 1979 National Runner Up team. The win moves the Panthers to 16-6 and 10-1 in conference play. The win also makes them 6-0 on the road in conference play.
Big game of interest today for Panther fans is the Illinois State vs. Bradley game. Bradley is 2 games back of first in the conference and Ill. St. is 3 games back. An Ill. State win moved Bradley 3 games back as well which could be important for UNI as they head to Illinois State AND Bradley in the coming weeks.

UNI WINS AGAIN!
Make it 11 in a row for the Panthers! They knock of second place Bradley, again, to move to 17-6 and 11-1 in conference. This is the third match up since Jan 21 where the #1 Panthers have taken on #2 Bradley or #2 Ill St. UNI was down 8 with three minutes left, tied the game up, then with 5 seconds left true freshman Johnny Moran hits a three to give UNI the 61-58 victory.
This win sets a school record for longest winning streak. UNI moves to 7-0 on the road in conference play as well.
UNI almost guaranteed themselves at least a share of the regular season crown tonight, baring a massive collapse. Bradley fell to 4 games back with 5 to play, and Ill. St. is 3 games back with 5 to play, and a head to head match up.

Re: UNI basketball
Alas the run came to an end yesterday afternoon.
Creighton knocked off UNI 77-71.
Creighton shot 47% and 35% from three, while UNI shot 29% and 19% from three.
The good thing to come from this is it pissed off the UNI players, AND we only lost by 6 after making only 9 shots in the first half and shooting as badly as we did.

UNI 81, Southern Illinois 55
CEDAR FALLS, Iowa -- Jordan Eglseder had 17 points and nine rebounds as Northern Iowa got back on the winning track with an 81-55 win over Southern Illinois Wednesday in the Missouri Valley Conference.
The Panthers (18-7, 12-2) had an 11-game winning streak snapped in their last outing, but they took control early against the Salukis (11-14, 6-8). UNI led 38-23 after shooting 50 percent in the first half and finished the night shooting 54 percent.
Eglseder was one of four Panthers in double figures. Kwadzo Ahelegbe had 13 points, Lucas O'Rear added 11 and Travis Brown 10. Ahelegbe was 7-for-7 from the free throw line and the Panthers made 20 of 24 attempts.
Tony Boyle led SIU with 20 points and seven rebounds. Boyle was 9-for-16 from the field, but the rest of the Salukis were a combined 11-for-40. Ryan Hare had 10 points for SIU.

UNI wins the conference, gets the NIT auto if we don't win the conference tourney, and the #1 seed....Creighton gets the 2.

Congratulations UNI! That was a great final. I only wish I'd seen the whole thing. CBS cut away during overtime here to show the start of DOOK vs The Tarholes.
