ESPN doesn't invite CAA to Bracketbusters

Post by ∞∞∞ »

According to David Teal of the Daily Press, Brian Mull of StarNewsOnline.com, and others, ESPN will not invite the CAA to play in the BracketBusters next season because of the TV deal the CAA signed with NBC Sports. Really classless move by the sports entertainment giant, and pretty much makes the BracketBusters an MVC show vs. everyone else.

I will say that there is one thing about the bracketbusters that I like, and that is an opportunity to watch Weber play against other teams from around the nation, teams that Weber wouldnt normally play or have a hard time scheduling.

And I like how they make them return the games the next few years.

Totally agree with this. I understand the Valley's arguement that they don't have much to gain, but for most other conferences, it's a great opportunity to see teams that you normally won't see on the schedule. I'm a big fan of bracketbuster games.

An issue of class? ESPN/ABC is a business. It's about maximizing stock shares, squeezing advertisers, and generally marketplace bullying. You're living in Disney's magic kingdom if you think E$PN is about the best interest of sports. Don't get me wrong -- I dislike ESPN, as well -- I just wouldn't use the word "class" to describe their relentless pursuit of the almighty dollar to the detriment of Old Dominion and the CAA.
