Hornets grinded out another one and knocked off UNC 66-59. Ugly game early but the Hornets were able to over come. Great defensive effort by UNC, it was a very tight game until the closing seconds. Great crowd tonight as well.

Re: Big Sky Basketball Thread - 2014-15
The last three games have been ugly on offense. Harvey, since coming back from the injury is getting more double teams, and forcing some really bad shots. Luckily, OG, Van Hoff, and Blizniuk have picked up the slack. Couple that with Kelley and Brandon being capable of big scoring nights, and our depth has become a huge asset.

Hornets win 74-66 to reclaim first place in the BSC. The Hornets got off to a slow start but then just methodically dissected the UND defense. The win means the Hornets ran the BSC table at home and we now control our own destiny with 3 tough road games (PSU, SUU, NAU) to finish out the season.

Brief Hosting Analysis
Men
EWU is the only one who totally controls their own destiny. They split with Sac & I'm assuming their potential 2-0 record against Montana would beat out Sac's 1-0 for common games as well as combined head-to-head.
Whoever loses UM/EWU is in tough shape. The Griz would basically be out of it thanks to an Eastern sweep, while EWU losing would concede the tiebreaker advantage to Sac thanks to Sac's win over UM.
NAU's chances of hosting are effectively nil. They ultimately can't win a tiebreaker so they would have to win the title outright to get home court (EWU, UM, and Sac would each have to lose twice).
Women
Montana will lock up hosting with a win over EWU regardless of whatever else happens. Eastern will get a sweep of UM with a win in Missoula, though. The chance of any other team hosting is a real long shot at this point.

Well all I’ve heard on the interwebs is how awesome the Griz are so I’m thinking they win on the road against a suddenly slumping EWU…which would benefit Sac…which only matters if we can win some tough road games. Thanks for clearing up NAU. I really haven’t looked at their chances of hosting in all of this. Would be crazy if our final game at NAU was for all the marbles. Who would have ever had that thought cross their minds…ever…

I mean, given that we have a brand new head coach and lost a player like Cherry...I think being tied for first with a few games to go is pretty swell.

I think you mean Jamar. Cherry was gone after '12-13. The addition of Breunig to the lineup combined with Gfeller actually doing something past November (unlike last year) has more than made up for the loss of Jamar.Grizalltheway wrote:I mean, given that we have a brand new head coach and lost a player like Cherry...I think being tied for first with a few games to go is pretty swell.

Yes. The possession of an actual productive post player makes a world of difference.Mvemjsunpx wrote:I think you mean Jamar. Cherry was gone after '12-13. Tuned in for the closing seconds, Idaho's stream quality might be the worst in the BSC...and those colorful lines on the court.

2/26 Scores
- Men
MSU 68-92 EWU; Marcus Colbert's 25 second-half points aren't nearly enough to prevent Bobcat elimination

SUU 67-77 UNC; Dominique Lee shoots 91% and gets a double-double

Mid-Week 9 Standings
Montana State became the first men's team to be eliminated from the BSC Tournament today. They were swept by Weber, & head-to-head results against others can't possibly overcome that in a multi-way tie. NoDak & ISU are still alive, though, because it is still possible for them to win tiebreakers (UND would need SUU to finish tied with them at 6-12, as well). Montana's loss tonight means they'll be eliminated from title contention officially with another loss to EWU Saturday.
Montana's women got everything they wanted tonight, but it still wasn't enough to clinch home court since EWU can still win the tiebreaker. The Lady Griz will clinch everything outright with a win over the Eags Saturday. Sac, NoCo, and NoDak are now officially out of title contention.

The men's Big Sky just doesn't want to resolve itself…
The Griz actually finish for once & win in Cheney by 1. Sac is now in the driver's seat, but with 3 potentially tough road games remaining.
In lower-tier news, Suutah eliminated both NoDak & Idaho State by winning in Grand Forks earlier today. Weber's lucky they have their final three games at home.

Reese Court Ridiculousness
Taken from eGriz, which was a sum-up from the postgame radio interview with Travis DeCuire…
Why would EWU fans even storm the court with a win here? It's not like they would've clinched the title.
TDC just said that prior to the tipoff, he was told by ewooo staff to have his team exit from the door behind their bench "when the fans stormed the court". TDC that really gave them some fire.
