Pretty much you when you basically disputed that there is a real Carolina. I don't care what they call themselves, I just love to remind them that 95% of the nation knows that Carolina is UNC and USC is Southern Cal. I don't know why they insist on trying to call themselves either.

Maybe South Carolina could be pretentious douchebags like Ohio State and put "THE" in front of USC so everyone knows its Southern Cal.

Well its obviously working since I never heard about it. I didnt even know South Carolina had sports programs until Steve Spurrior went there to coach.

Is the school known for its outstanding marketing program?

They lost a few. When I was in HS they suspended the use of "Cocks" on their merch but there is a shirt. I bought one for my mother in law a few years ago.

Doesn't really matter though, it's a regional thing. People in SC aren't talking about Southern Cal or UNC when they say "USC" or "Carolina." Nationally, yeah, the distinction is there. I usually just say South Carolina or SC.

My dad was a UNC alum, so there's only ever been one Carolina to me. When we first moved here my wife and I were in a bar talking to some folks and had the following exchange:
Me: (blah blah).....Carolina
Random chick: you mean North Carolina.
Me: Yeah, the school in Chapel Hill. Carolina.
RC: The real Carolina is in Columbia.
Me: One school is the oldest public university in the US, and the other is South Carolina. You do the math on who gets the prize.

I'm a fan of the school. However, look who has brought up the original issue...it's not me. You're the person who cares how fans of a school refer to that school. If you didn't, you wouldn't be bitching about it.

They've been "Coots" in the El Cid lexicon for a long time. We were calling them that back in the 1980s when I was in school so I assume its older than that
