Re: Colonial Athletic Association
Its really gonna be interesting to see the preseason poll tomorrow. I think Drexel will be the preseason favorite. They are the one team with least amount of question marks. Usually one of the power 3 are always the favorite but this year it might be different with both VCU and ODU losing a lot from last year as well as Mason having a new head coach.

IMPROBABLE FINAL FOUR RUN EARNS RAMS NOMINATION AS SI’S SPORTSMEN OF THE YEAR
Seth Davis' column about the nomination http://sportsillustrated.cnn.com/2011/m ... index.html" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;
RICHMOND, Va. – John Wooden. Muhammad Ali. Wayne Gretzky. Michael Jordan. Arthur Ashe. Dwayne Wade. All have been honored as Sports Illustrated's prestigious "Sportsman of the Year."
The VCU men's basketball team has a chance to join that historic group after the Rams were nominated for the high honor by Sports Illustrated's Seth Davis, a long time writer for SI and reporter for CBS during the NCAA Tournament.
After much scrutiny by the media after VCU received an at-large bid to the 2011 NCAA Tournament, the Rams reeled off five straight impressive victories through BCS powers USC then Georgetown then Purdue then Florida State and finally top-seeded Kansas to earn the school's first-ever trip to the Final Four.

Re: Colonial Athletic Association
RICHMOND, Va. – Last season, the VCU men’s basketball team set a school record for televised games with 23 contests being shown nationally or regionally.
Before the 2011-12 campaign even starts, the Black & Gold will have tied that record with a minimum of 23 of their scheduled 30 games being available for all of Ram Nation to view. That occurs because of a recent partnership that VCU has made with ESPN3 to broadcast all of their home games that weren’t previously scheduled to be shown on other networks.
With more games at the Charleston Classic and CAA Tournaments as possible additions to the TV broadcast, Ram Nation will have plenty of chances to see their beloved team this year.
Below is the full schedule of TV games for the Black & Gold during the 2011-12 season:

Forwards Justin Tuoyo (Hampton, Ga.) and forwards Mo Alie-Cox (Middleburg, Va.) and Jordan Burgess (Midlothian, Va.) all signed National Letters of Intent to play for the Black & Gold in 2012-13.

VCU’S ROBINSON NAMED ONE OF NATION’S TOP MID-MAJOR WOMEN’S BASKETBALL ASSISTANTS
CollegeInsider.com's Top 25 Mid-Major Women's Basketball Assistants
VCU Associate Head Coach Tarrell Robinson has been recognized as one of the nation's top 25 Mid-Major women's basketball assistants, according to CollegeInsider.com.
In his third year at VCU, Robinson, who was elevated to his current post last May, assumed the role of recruiting coordinator after just his first season with the Rams. During that time, the Black & Gold signed consecutive classes that have ranked among the best in the Colonial Athletic Association, while making back-to-back postseason appearances, including a run to the third round of the WNIT in 2010.

RAMS WREAK HAVOC WITH SCHOOL RECORD 20 STEALS IN 87-64 ROUT OF UNCW IN CAA OPENER
RICHMOND, Va. – For the past eight days, the VCU basketball team was focused on finishing the fall semester strong academically. On Saturday night, the Rams were focused on acing their Colonial Athletic Association opener against UNCW.
A school record 20 steals and 28 forced turnovers helped the Black & Gold do just that. VCU wreaked HAVOC all over the Seahawks in an 87-64 victory in front of yet another sellout crowd at the Verizon Wireless Arena at the Stuart C. Siegel Center. The capacity crowd extended the school record sellout streak to eight and is now just one away from tying the CAA record.
"Once again, I can't say enough about how phenomenal the crowd was tonight," Head Coach Shaka Smart said. "It really says a lot about the following that we have here at VCU when on a night like tonight, when a lot of kids are gone for the holidays and we're still sold out. I've said it many times before, but I've never been to a place that our fans have such a great relationship with our players. It's terrific."
HAVOC was on full display at the Siegel Center tonight as the Black & Gold forced the Seahawks into turnovers on 39.1% of their possessions, which led to VCU scoring 41 points off turnovers compared to just four points off turnovers for UNCW. The 28 forced turnovers is the most since Jan. 2, 2010 and marks the fourth time this year that the Rams have forced 20 or more turnovers.

If Towson can't beat Vermont tomorrow night, we might be looking at an O-fer year.
"Elaine, you're from Baltimore, right?"
"Yes, well, Towson actually."
