Re: Big Sky Basketball Thread - 2015-16
Hornets squeak out a win over Idaho 68-65 for the season sweep. Officials were atrocious, but the Hornets had a solid 2nd half to rally from an 11 point deficit.

WTF!? All the posts from last night (not just mine) mysteriously disappeared.
I'll repost the updated standings, but I'm not gonna post the 2/20 scores again. The most important thing from yesterday is that Joel Bolomboy hurt his knee in Weber's win over NAU.

I am not looking forward to the Griz hosting in Reno. What a stupid change.

Re: Big Sky Basketball Thread - 2015-16
Bengals win again, 2 big home games loom against the Montana schools, we are hoping for some overdue payback.

I (and Fullerton, apparently) don't like it, either, but I understand how the budget crunchers hated paying through the roof for last second travel accommodations. Also, from what I've read, the fact the Idaho State WBB had to bus to Grand Forks in 2014 because their flight got screwed up was the last straw.Vidav wrote:I am not looking forward to the Griz hosting in Reno. Still, I don't think the move to Reno will be worth it in the end.

Yeah I think it was the logistics. The Lady Hornets had to send their team over multiple flights across 2 days for that 2014 GF tourney.Mvemjsunpx wrote:I (and Fullerton, apparently) don't like it, either, but I understand how the budget crunchers hated paying through the roof for last second travel accommodations. Hornets lose 72-67 at UNC, a game in which they led most of the way.

Re: Big Sky Basketball Thread - 2015-16
Gonna be a helluva fun game to watch on Saturday, hoping for a crowd of at least 9,000.
Will be the 123rd meeting between the two. Weber has played no one as many times as they have played the Montana Griz.
And if Weber wins on Saturday it will be the 1000th victory for Weber State since becoming a Division 1 four year school. Weber State has an overall record of 999-570. Winning percentage 63.7 percent. The 22nd best winning percentage in NCAA history

Awards Discussion/Projections
Men
MVP - Breunig or Bolomboy. I guess Senglin could sneak in if Weber wins the league without Bolomboy playing at all, but… Weber probably has to win the league now to get MVP (I'm not sure they did before Bolomboy got hurt).
Freshman - Tyler Hall (MSU)
Newcomer - Ethan Telfair or Cameron Forte. Telfair should be at least a slight favorite because ISU is better than PSU.
Defense - No clue. Spickerman? Someone from Idaho?
6th. Man - No idea here, either. Kris Yanku could get it since he's been coming off the bench the last several games, but that would be kinda cheap.
Coach - Should be between DeCuire, Rahe, and Evans. I'd vote for Evans if ISU finishes better than 10-8, otherwise the league winner.
Women
MVP - Whoever wins the league, most likely. Hommes/Ferris (MSU), Hayley Hodgins (EWU), or whoever the hell Idaho nominates.
Freshman - Alyssa Rader (NAU)
Newcomer - Brooke Blair (ISU)
Defense - Adella Randle-El (SAC) or Anna Policicchio (ISU). Randle-El is averaging an insane 4.6 steals-per-game in conference play and is in the top-3 nationally in all games.
Bench - Peyton Ferris (MSU)
Coach - Between Jon Newlee (ID), Tricia Binford (MSU), and Wendy Schuller (EWU). I'd vote for Schuller at this point since EWU was supposed to be down from the last few years (and they don't have much depth).

Seriously, I don't see Oguine beating out Hall with how many points Hall has scored. Breunig's too foul prone to get DPOY, and Gfeller has started every game so he won't get 6th. man.

Embarrassing offense for both teams, missing easy shots.
Weber takes it by 6.

Re: Big Sky Basketball Thread - 2015-16
Griz left their 3-pointers in Pocatello, it seems. A really disappointing performance since everything was tailor-made for Montana to end their Ogden losing streak.
The conference race isn't over, though. It's certainly plausible Weber could get swept this coming week, especially without Bolomboy.

Man good defensive game, the atmosphere here at the Dee felt like a Big Sky Championship atmosphere ( not gonna get that in Reno ) Loud and exciting Montana has a great team, and I really hope it's Weber vs Montana in the Championship game. Big Sky basketball at it's finest.

That was the most piss-poorly reffed game I've watched all season. Refs spend an entire season calling every stinking ticky-tack foul, the let these two teams play fucking rugby until about 8 minutes left in the game.Mvemjsunpx wrote:Griz left their 3-pointers in Pocatello, it seems. I don't really agree there. I only caught bits of the second half, but the first half was pretty well done. The Griz couldn't draw many fouls in the first half because they never did anything offensively that would make Weber foul them—it was just lazy contested jump shots and Krislovic's usual "touch" around the rim.AZGrizFan wrote:That was the most piss-poorly reffed game I've watched all season. The MSU women got a miracle at the end of regulation and survived Idaho State in overtime. That keeps them a game ahead of EWU (Eags have the tiebreaker) and eliminates Idaho from title contention. Both MSU & EWU are on the road the final week.
