Re: 2010-11 Big Sky Basketball
Sac State came up and played at Wazzu tonight and I can say, with near certainty, that they are the worst team we will play all season, and that is having already played Southern. Cougs won 84-36 and were up 27-0 about 9 minutes into the game, playing without our starting PG and PF...we had a lineup consisting of 3 walk-ons and a former walk-on playing midway through the first half.

Re: 2010-11 Big Sky Basketball
If they don't get Glen Dean back. The Eags should be at least capable if he can get healthy. Unfortunately, that probably won't be in time to help the Big Sky's RPI (i.e., they won't play well until conference). And don't forget Idaho State, who's struggled even in NAIA games.dbackjon wrote:Eastern Washington might be as badShellin wrote:Sac State came up and played at Wazzu tonight and I can say, with near certainty, that they are the worst team we will play all season, and that is having already played Southern. Sac was worse than EWU tonight, though. To see Sac lose to Wazzu that bad doesn't say much for Katz's rebuilding project. The Griz apparently played the Cougs in a "secret scrimmage" at the end of October & the two reportedly played about even.
Re: 2010-11 Big Sky Basketball
I heard the same rumors about the scrimmage in CDA, which doesn't really surprise me. The Griz are solid and would match up well against us because we're so small (not to mention Reggie Moore, probably the second best PG in the Pac-10 didn't play so we had a true frosh at point with Cherry on him, who is an excellent defender).

Re: 2010-11 Big Sky Basketball
I agree. My expectations were to see the Hornets near the 500 mark this season. We have three returning starters and 9 new players, but I still expected an improved performance from this team. My issue has been the losses to the teams that have been struggling similarly like the Hornets have in recent history. The Hornets blew a big lead against Bakersfield in the season opener and lost the game in OT. Then losses against a young UND team on the road and a weak cal-davis team at home were games I felt the Hornets needed to win to show Katz truly is improving this program. Hopefully things can get turned around and fortunately there are plenty of games to be played.Mvemjsunpx wrote:Sac was worse than EWU tonight, though. Griz lead UCLA by 4 at halftime in Pauley.
Griz now up 15 with about 9 minutes left.
Still 15 point lead with 3:25 left. UCLA shooting around 30%.
Good thing UCLA can't shoot, because the Griz can't make a free throw to save their lives.
Howland sort of calls off the dogs in the final minute. Griz will win.

After starting the season with two road losses, NAU has reeled off seven wins in a row.
Competition gets stiffer for the rest of the OOC;
At Arizona
At USC
Air Force
Then league play opens with a trip to the Montana schools.

yeah those are tough games, and starting conf play at the montanas is tough, Weber is in the same situation, we still have 4 OOC games and only one of them can be considered easy
@ Southern Utah
@ Tulsa
University of the Southwest
Nationaly ranked BYU
and then a trip to the Montana's as well, followed by a trip to Flagstaff.
5 of Weber's first 7 conf games are on the road. Tough stuff

NAU performed well in LA vs. USC. Hard to be frustrated with a 7-3 start with those losses on the road vs. a Big 12, Pac 10 and upper echelon Missouri Valley Conference team.
Thursday night in Tucson at the McKale Center Bingo Hall/Nursing Home amidst the masses of silver, grey and blue-haired U of A supporters.
Will NAU beat U of A...doubtful. Will they make U of A work...most likely. What I love so much more about college basketball compared to college football is that upsets happen and the playing field is more leveled. Ya never know what can happen.
