I'm no insider but that sounds like 1,200 seats is the total. That means 300 more seats from last year. Putting backs on them will make the setting more comfortable.

The Skydome definitely fits more fans. But I've been in the Dome a few times when a large crowd showed up and it just never "felt" like a basketball game to me. Rolle is lacking in amenities but the playoff game last season "felt" like a real basketball game. I'm okay with Rolle as long as it doesn't stay their permanent home. I prefer the idea that's been thrown around of turning the fieldhouse on central campus into a basketball-only facility. But with attitudes towards higher education and realities of lack of funding like it is in Arizona, I'm not holding my breath.

Rolle maybe small, but it gets the fans right up in the action, and a packed house, even if its only 1,200, would still be loud.

I think it would be awesome if NAU could get a basketball only facility for themselves, what would be the capacity for said facility?

The Big Sky Conference playoff game last March vs. Montana State was the best basketball environment apart from the NCAA tournament appearances I've experienced since following NAU sports. Better than the Big Sky tourney games I've seen at the Skydome. Louder and closer to the action. Fewer seats be damned.

Since the talk of turning the fieldhouse into a basketball-only facility is only speculation, I can't give any kind of reasonable answer here, Wildcat Ryan. I used to shoot hoops with friends in the fieldhouse and can say that it's significantly bigger than Rolle Activity Center but it would need work to convert it into an arena.

Well, whether it be the Field House, Rolle or the Skydome, we all know NAU will be tough to beat no matter what. Unless you have Lindsey Hughey and his amazing falling out of bounds 3 pointer ;)

UNI announced their non-con today. Pretty good early, weaker towards the conference season, which is great by me.

UNI is part of ESPN's Marathon Tip Off even this year...playing @ St. Mary's. That is very exciting...BUT...It is a 1AM central tip time (game is @ St. Mary's) and is just three days after UNI is AT Old Dominion.
The University of Northern Iowa released its non-conference men's basketball schedule today featuring the season opener at Old Dominion on Nov. 12 and a spot in ESPN's College Hoops Tip-Off Marathon with a matchup against St. Mary's (Calif.) on Nov. 15.

"Once again Iowa and Iowa State will highlight the non-conference portion of our schedule. Our University, our fans and student body look forward to these games each and every year," UNI head coach Ben Jacobson said. "In addition, we have a unique opportunity to play Old Dominion and St. Mary's on the opening weekend. Both programs have established themselves nationally with their tremendous success and consistency. Northern Colorado, Colorado State and Milwaukee will visit the McLeod Center coming off postseason play last season. We look forward to another challenging, competitive non-league schedule."

The Panthers (20-14 overall in 2010-11) will begin the 2011-12 season with a pair of exhibition games against Northern State (Oct. 30) and Dubuque (Nov. 4). The Panthers will initiate the regular season Nov. 12 with a road game at Old Dominion. UNI posted a 71-62 victory over Old Dominion in the 2010 BracketBusters contest in the McLeod Center. Old Dominion went 27-7 last season before falling to eventual national runner-up Butler in the NCAA Tournament's second round, 60-58.

UNI will then take part in ESPN's College Hoops Tip-Off Marathon by taking on St. Mary's (Calif.) on Tues., Nov. 15. The game will be televised live on ESPN.

The Panthers and Gaels will tip at 1 a.m. (CT) - which is 11 p.m. (local time) in Moraga, Calif. It will be the first-ever meeting between UNI and St. Mary's in men's basketball.

St. Mary's posted a mark of 25-9 last season and earned a spot in the National Invitational Tournament (NIT). The Gaels dropped a first-round NIT game to Kent State, 71-70. In 2009-10, St. Mary's reached the Sweet 16 with NCAA Tournament wins over Richmond and Villanova before eventually falling to Baylor in the regional semifinal.

UNI has made 30 appearances on the ESPN family of networks over the past six seasons. The Panthers have won eight of their last 12 games on the World Wide Leader.

As a part of the scheduling agreement between UNI and St. Mary's, the Gaels will play a return game in the McLeod Center in the 2012-13 season.

The Panthers' home regular season opener is slated for Nov. 20 against Western Carolina. The Catamounts posted an 18-15 mark last year, including a 12-6 record in the Southern Conference. UNI will also take on the Northern Colorado Bears on Nov. 22 in the McLeod Center. UNC is the defending Big Sky Conference champions after notching a 21-11 mark last season. The Bears are coached by Cedar Falls native B.J. Hill. Both the WCU and UNC games are a part of the South Padre Island Invitational.

UNI will then head to South Padre Island, Texas, to play both Rice and Providence. The Panthers will take on the Rice Owls at 5 p.m. on Nov. 25. Rice (14-18 overall, 5-11 Conference USA) is led by head coach Ben Braun. Braun has led eight teams to the NCAA Tournament and is a three-time Mid-American Conference Coach of the Year and a one-time Pac-10 Coach of the Year. He led Eastern Michigan to the Sweet 16 in 1991 and California to the Sweet 16 in 1997.

The Panthers will take on the Providence Friars at 6:30 p.m. on Nov. 26 in South Padre. The Panthers and Friars game will be televised by CBS College Sports. Providence (15-17 overall, 4-14 Big East) will be led by first-year head coach Ed Cooley.

UNI will travel to Ames, Iowa, to take on the Iowa State Cyclones following the South Padre Island event on Nov. 30. Iowa State is also taking part in the South Padre Island Invitational. Iowa State (16-16 overall, 3-13 Big 12) has lost two straight games to the Panthers, including a 60-54 decision last season in the McLeod Center.

UNI will return to the McLeod Center on Dec. 3 to play host to the Colorado State Rams as a part of the Mountain West/Missouri Valley Conference Challenge. UNI was the lone Valley team to win during last year's series between the two leagues when the Panthers posted a 64-60 win at TCU. It will be the first-ever meeting between UNI and Colorado State in men's basketball. The Rams (19-13 overall, 9-7 MWC) lost to Fairfield in the opening round of the 2010 NIT, 62-60.

The Panthers will then entertain intra-state rival Iowa on Dec. 6 in the McLeod Center. Iowa (11-20, 4-14 Big Ten) scored a win over the Panthers last year in Iowa City. UNI tallied a 67-50 win over Iowa in the Hawkeyes' last trip to Cedar Falls on Dec. 8, 2009.

UNI will take on the Milwaukee Panthers on Dec. 10 in the McLeod Center. It is the second of a four-game series vs. Milwaukee (19-14 overall, 13-5 Horizon). Milwaukee fell to Northeastern in the opening round of the 2010 NIT, 70-61.

UNI will also matchup against Loras on Dec. 19 in the McLeod Center.

UNI is looking to add one more home game to the 2011-12 non-conference schedule as well.

Harvard's recruiting class consists of six players, one of whom was nominated as a McDonald's All-American. Four forwards, one guard, one center.
Top two wishes of Ivy football fans everywhere: Playoff participation by the Ivy champion and the diversification of opponents in scheduling games.

I don't know what to expect from Southern but they should be improved with a new coach that is actually focusing on recruiting the local area.
