Griz aren't the only ones that are seeing this problem. Look at most of the 13-16 seeds. The talent level top to bottom doesn't prepare them to face the B10 schools.

FWIW, I doubt UNI would have fared any better against Wisconsin today.
14 seed BYU lost by 20.

I don't think most anyone would have fared too well against Wisconsin today. I'm guessing they played one of their best games of the season—shooting was their biggest weakness, but that certainly wasn't the case here. And it was all jump shots, too. The Griz outscored UW in the paint by 10 and still lost by 24.

Montana is always in this position when they go to the NCAAs, but it hasn't hurt them in the past. They played a #1-seed pretty well in 2005 (lost by 11 after falling behind 16-2), upset a #5-seed in 2006, and nearly (should have) upset a #3-seed in 2010. Tinkle's teams always step up against big opponents, so a result like this definitely surprised me.

More game analysis: Ironically, I think this one was lost in the first 15 minutes when the score was still close. UM was having their way with Wisconsin's defense early, but still trailed when Wisconsin made the proper adjustments late in the half. The Griz for some reason couldn't find the baseline shooters to save their lives during that stretch. Wisconsin had 7 wide-open treys in a row and made 6, keeping the game close when, really, Montana should have been up double digits. That's the worst three-point D I've seen from the Griz all season, and it's quite surprising to see guys get that wide open with no-one within 10 feet of them when the defense is in a zone.
