Legal & Injury Troubles

Post by Mvemjsunpx »

Southern Utah's Wade Collie was arrested for some sort of drug charge over the weekend. He's their third-leading scorer with 7.3 ppg.

Also, EWU apparently lost Kevin Winford to a leg injury this past week.

NoDak Suspends Radio Announcer

Post by Mvemjsunpx »

It appears the No-Nicks actually have some standards for their radio guy, unlike another particular school on the east side of the Big Sky.

PSU Women Lose Other Oregon State Transfer to Injury

Post by Mvemjsunpx »

After the Viks lost Kate Lanz to a torn ACL in December, they've now lost starting post Angela Misa to a season-ending knee injury. This probably tanks any hope they had at stealing the last Big Sky Tournament berth.

Misa was averaging a double-double (10.8 ppg, 10.2 rpg).

NoDak leads in Greeley by 3 at the half. The Bears have pretty much shot lights out at home this season, but are 0-11 from the arc in this one.

That win should secure a spot for North Dakota in the conference tournament. Now we need to get a couple road wins at PSU and EWU. Our final game at home against SUU could have alot of impact on the seedings after UM and Weber.

Read that Ward is out for Montana for a while. That is significant. Looking at the remaining schedules for UM and Weber, the location of the conference tourney could still very much be up in the air. The Griz still have to travel to MSU and SUU. Weber's remaining games are far less daunting.

MSU just got trounced by ISU, for chrissakes. I know they played us close last game, but I'm really not that worried about them.

I think the seeding doesn’t matter so long as you can avoid the 7 spot (which will more than likely be a 1st round game against Weber). Everyone besides UM and Weber has shown that they can beat/lose to everyone.

And then turned around and lost to Weber by only 8 in Ogden.

MSU has talent, and If I was a griz fan and saw what that same MSU team did in Missoula, I would be worried.

Bobcats are playing terrible basketball right now. I expect the Griz to handle them, but you just never know in a rivalry game, and in Bozeman to boot. You guys missing Ward won't help matters.

I think there is alot of value in getting that #3 seed for the remaining teams. Assuming the #3 seed wins the first game (no guarantee of course), then they can avoid the host school in the semi-finals.

Unprecedented Losing-ness

Post by Mvemjsunpx »

Weber State's women's team has now lost 44 straight games, which ties the Big Sky Conference record for consecutive overall losses set by Sac State from early '01 to fall '02. They can set the new record in Ogden against—appropriately—Sacramento State next Thursday night.

There are two other streak records the Wildcats have a chance to set next season:

1. Weber has lost 34 straight conference games. The BSC record is 40, set by NAU from 1991-94.

2. Weber has lost 44 straight DI games. The BSC record is 60, set by Sac State from 2001-03.

BracketBuster Update

Post by Mvemjsunpx »

NoDak fell apart late & lost to UNO in Omaha.

Will Cherry injured his ankle & the Griz really missed his defense in overtime. Davidson scored on all but one possession in the OT (not counting where the clock ran out).

PSU fell behind to UCR by 8 several minutes into the second half, but Riverside hasn't scored since. PSU up 8 with under 5:00 to play.

ISU has played Idaho tough (this is the biggest mismatch in terms of RPI ratings involving the Big Sky today, I believe), but it doesn't look like they'll get it done. Multi-possession lead for UI with less than 2 min.

Eastern up 11 on Sam Houston fairly late. They've led basically the whole way.

NoCo was down a bit, then up a bit, now down a bit again in Davis.

Eastern having some troubles in the final minute. EWU ball up 2 with 29 seconds.

And the EWU pep band was just playing the Power Rangers theme during the last timeout. :?

EWU now up 4 after 2 Chiverton FTs.

Vandals win in Pokey by 9.

NoCo down 7 with 10 minutes left. I don't think that score is too current, though (ESPN's updates have been wonky on that one).
