Hornets bounce back and knock off Pacific 79-71. Tied at half, Hornets controlled the 2nd half and let things get a little closer than it should have been at the end. A solid bounce back game for Graves (19 pts, 8 stls, 6 asts).

Re: Big Sky Basketball Thread - 2015-16
Regardless of what anyone tells you (even the SID), Venus, the correct acronym is UOP.
That said, it was a horrible outing for the Tigers, but not unexpected by UOP fans. Three players are under suspension pending investigation of a scandal involving a former assistant coach that could get UOP some serious probation. It's so bad that it caused that coach's subsequent employer (Idaho, whose HC is the brother of UOP's current HC) to ask him to resign before the season started. It's a two-pronged thing involving an inappropriate relationship with an athlete on another team within the Tiger athletic program AND allegedly taking fraudulent tests he was supposed to proctor for players. Sad that he's a UOP grad. Should have known better....

SuperHornet's Athletics Hall of Fame includes Jacksonville State kicker Ashley Martin, the first girl to score in a Division I football game. She kicked 3 PATs in a 2001 game for J-State.

Reigning Big Sky Conference defensive player of the year, Jordyn Martin, out for what looks to the be the remainder of the season with an injured foot.
This leaves 3 remaining players (Kaluna, Yanku and Neeley) who had significant minutes last season, a handful of sophomore/junior reserves and 11 freshmen.
It'll be fun watching all the new athleticism on the court...but it could also be a long season.

Re: Big Sky Basketball Thread - 2015-16
Hornets lose 66-61 in the Causeway rematch. This game shouldn't have been this close as the Hornets had an awful night from the floor. Terrible night for Graves and Demps. Stupid fouls got the Hornets into foul trouble, but ultimately the Hornets got zero calls on drives to the basket while the dungpilers got them all. They can thank the refs for an assist in this one.

Re: 12/6 Games
Caught most of their loss to USF, needed to win that one. A poor 2nd qtr did them in in that one. The Lady Hornets aren't nearly as good as they were a season ago, but I think they will be fine when it gets to BSC play. Another brutal OOC schedule this season.Mvemjsunpx wrote: SAC 99-117 CAL*; Sac breaks their own NCAA record with 80 trey attempts; the previous mark was 58

Men squeak by Incarnate Word 73-70. Hornets jump out to a comfortable lead then watch it whither away. Some critical buckets late sealed this one as well as making some of their FTs late. The Hornets just don't know how to play with a lead.

And GU will play a few good ones.Martin Breunig led Montana (3-4) with 20 points, 18 coming after halftime. Walter Wright added 14.
"I was just trying to be more aggressive (in the second half) . in the first half, we were not aggressive enough," Breunig said.
Few said Breunig "is one of the best low-post players we'll play this season."
Karnowski was out again and GU really doesn't have any established guards yet. They may struggle a bit this year even with one of the best front courts in the nation.

Justin Strings earns BSC POTW.
Nice win for a struggling ISU team. The Hornets play Portland this weekend.
Good showing for UM. Would have been nice to get that win and help out the conference that has had a poor showing in OOC play.

That SJSU loss is a bad one. Pepperdine looks meh, probably a game UM should have won. Good showing at Zaga. I’ve only caught a glimpse of UM this season, but from what I have seen I’m not impressed. Still early though, I figure it’s only a matter of time until the young players come around.AZGrizFan wrote:Griz just can't get over the hump.
