Yes we are. I found this post on the Internet so it has to be true.
There is a very elitist attitude, especially with extracurricular like service groups and very visible school organizations. The same kids run everything and if you don't fit into that "ideal Villanovan" image, they won't accept you, regardless of how qualified you are.
My wife is a nova grad and she agrees, there are a lot of elitist snobs at villanova. Not her of course.
Like Mrs89 and UVA. Don't dare say "campus" or "freshman" around a Wahoo. It's "grounds" and "first year" and they will make sure to let you know.
But not really. Because you would know by anyone's standards other than your own Nova's tournament history is very good. It's my turn to copy and paste. Let's look at how Nova has done this decade.
2009 4-1 Defeated UCLA in second round, 89-69
Defeated Duke in regional semifinal, 77-54
Lost to North Carolina in National Semifinal, 83-69
2008 2-1 Lost to Kansas in regional semifinal, 72-57
2007 0-1 Lost to Kentucky in first round, 67-58
2006 3-1 Defeated Boston College in regional semifinal, 60-59
Lost to Florida in regional final, 75-62
2005 2-1 Defeated Florida in second round, 76-65
Lost to North Carolina in regional semifinal, 67-66
Is that recent enough for you?
And here's another Jeopardy question for you- name the starting guards for the NBA All Star game?
Dwayne Wade and Kyle Lowry? I remember them. They are alum from the old Big East, you know, when the conference was the best in the country. Ah, the good old days.

AH, if that were true for you BUT NOT! Nova is the NEW BIG EAST my man. You have been pointing that out for the last two years.
Lowry- Nova
Wade- Marquette
Now that is an elite backcourt! Both from the NEW BIG EAST!!!!!!!!!

Now I wonder if I'm talking to a sane person or not.
First of all, I made a mistake. Dwayne Wade was never a Big East player. When he played for Marquette that school was still playing in Conference USA.
And seriously, Lowry last played for nova in the 2005-06 season, so basically 10 years ago. So he played in the old Big East that included Syracuse, Pitt, Notre Dame, Louisville, Cincinnati, and West Virginia, along with all the teams that are there now minus Butler and Creighton. Now that was an elite conference.

You have been buried and just can't admit it. You can't take the great history of those two programs and only count the last two years. It is a ridiculous premise. They are both a part of the new Big East, period. Two elite players from two storied programs that are a part of the league you have been lambasting for the better part of two years because your butt hurts from all the Nova football wins over Delaware in the last 10 years. It must really sting. Shinebox time again?

Things change. The Ivy League used to be the best conference in all the land for football. Are they now? The Montreal Canadiens have the most Stanley Cups in the history of the sport. Are they the best franchise in hockey today? Your premise that as long as programs have storied pasts then you can just skip over the very recent past of those programs and still consider them great is just selective reasoning - you're just picking what you like and ignore the rest. It's a "what have you done for me lately" sport (actually, all sports are like that) and lately, the new Big East has been found wanting come March. There's no way to deny that no matter how many stars from Conference USA you march out (seriously, claiming Dwayne Wade as a poster child for the Big East is easily the weakest argument you've trotted out, and there's plenty of competition for that considering the rest of your arguments). You can claim that nothing's changed since all the other schools left the Big East for greener pastures, but that's just wishful thinking and blindly ignoring the real evidence in front of you. You must hate when March comes around and reality sets in.
Things do change. Let's see how this March turns out. Will things change again? If you are hanging your hopes that Jay Wright and the Cats are not going to make any more tournament runs because they don't play UConn or Syracuse anymore you will be disappointed. I am sure of that. Their recruiting is as good as it has ever been.
I also know for sure that this Big East is very good. A lot better than you would have us believe. Better than last year. Can I be sure they will have two or more teams go to the Final Sixteen or Eight or Four, of course not. The experts ( polls, computer rankings, etc.) that are much more unbiased than you tell me the conference has some really good teams and 7 of them are potential tourney teams. My own eye tells me Nova, Xavier and Providence have a shot at a Final Eight or thereabouts.

March Madness is around the corner. Can't wait.
Dude, the terminology is Sweet Sixteen, Elite Eight, and Final Four. At least you got the March Madness right.
If you look at Kenpom today, and he's normally pretty good at predicting the field, nova and Xavier are locks to make the tourney, Creighton and Butler are likely to make the tournament, Providence and Seton Hall would be bubble teams, and Georgetown's likely out. As it stands today. I would think 5 minimum and 6 would probably be the maximum.
And unless the play a really good non-conf team and then Xavier (or vice versa) or play Xavier twice in a row they likely won't be faced with playing two teams in a row that they could lose to. Other than Kansas, the other teams on that list have the same issue nova has - they don't tend to play in a conference where you're going to see two great teams in a row. Notice the lack of ACC or Big 10 teams, for instance, on that list.

Three of the five have NCAA Championships. Including Nova----WHO IS THE

Another good year to be a Wildcat. Not so good for the detractors. Keep trying though.
Does this include losing in March Madness and then starting the next season off in a 'pre-season tourney' game?
It goes back to the end of the 2012-2013 season when they lost to Louisville in the Big East playoffs and then to North Carolina in the NCAA tournament.

You do know I root for nova (Big 5 fan) so I'm very glad when they do well. I know your lot tends to look down on Big 5 fans as not real fans (unless you are counting the thousands of us who do go to the Wells Fargo Center when games are there) but we try not to let your snobbery get in the way of watching hoops.
I'd love to say nova's on the way to a big tournament run but I just don't see it. This could be the year they break the Sweet Sixteen jinx they've been on and get there by beating someone better than a #15 seed in the tourney but it still looks like an earlier exit than most would like from the tourney. My prediction about Providence possibly being a first round exit may be off, though. Heck, kenpom has Providence all the way down at #50 now. It's possible they don't even make the tournament at that rate.

1)Not a chance
2)less than no chance
Looking back on this thread, you've told many fans (me, Bluehen86, tribe_pride, among others) they aren't real fans no matter what they say. What's the definition of snobbery again?

And you have spent the better part of two years bad mouthing Nova.

I have spent the better part of two years bemoaning the reality of the situation they are in and how it impacts them on the biggest stage, and the only stage in the sport, in March - that's a nuance you are unable to perceive with your homer/snob glasses on. In your mind, any criticism of nova or, more importantly, the conference they are in, is blasphemy, no matter how true it is. I rip the Eagles and the Phillies frequently here as well (not the Sixers, though, because the process is working ) and yet I'm still a fan of them. It's a Philly thing.

Ok, enjoy tonight's game against DePaul. And, stop the bemoaning. It really sucks. Nova is in the middle of one of their best seasons (ranked #1) and you spend a good bit of your time taking up arguments with one of their biggest supporters on a forum because he won't admit that they can't/won't make a deep tournament run because of the conference they are in. Which, by all independent rankings is a top conference. What is wrong with you? Lots of teams have made final four runs with lesser schedules. And, last I looked this year, they will have played 5 or 6 games against the top 7 teams in the country if you count the exhibition with Maryland.

We are #1 in the country. Enjoy the run.
I'll decide what I can bemoan and what I can't, thank you very much. And I'll still bemoan that I think that nova is untested going through the season. The best OOC win for nova at this point is really St. Joe's, and the only two other OOC teams they played of note (OK and UVA) they got crushed by one and looked bad for most of the game against the other. And I'll still bemoan that in conference they just aren't tested enough - right now Xavier is the only other team in conference that could be considered a real, top-flight team. Sure, others will show up in the tourney but all of them will be gone by the end of the first weekend, if they even make it to the weekend. I'm a results guy, and in college basketball the result is the NCAA tourney, and right now, I don't have a good feeling that this nova team is going to make an extended run in the tourney barring a bracket miracle. The #1 ranking is nice, but being ranked #1 now and bowing out early in the tournament is a big let down.

This post is garbage. You must feel like a pretzel trying to justify how Nova isn't tested this year.
Any fan of Nova should be ecstatic right now unless they are like you a faux fan.
He sure sounds like it. All he does is bitch and moan about the negatives. Enjoy the sport for once.
Remember, Nova hasn't been tested despite having a top 10 SOS up until this week (thanks Depaul and St. Johns)
I enjoy it just fine, thanks. nova had a great SOS last year, and then got torched in the tourney. SOS in college basketball is relatively meaningless. Show me the truly top teams they are playing - they played OK, they played UVA, and they played Xavier (assuming Xavier isn't dropping from that status as the year plays on). They're 1-2 in those games. They get to play Xavier one more time. Is that enough games against truly elite level teams? It wasn't last year, and it wasn't the year before. The only thing that truly matters in college basketball is the NCAA tourney - everything else is just the lead-up to it.
I'm a fan, just not a homer fan. I see the danger signs bright and clear just like I have, and was vindicated, in each of the last two years.
