Northern Colorado sits at 8-1 overall.

MSU is leading the conference at 2-0 after giving UNC their only loss (in Bozeman).

NAU will be lucky to get to 10 wins overall this year.

Montana beats LMU on the road without Brian Qvale (family emergency), 82-73. Anthony Johnson went 14/14 from the line to help the Griz sweep the season series against the Lions.

NAU's women beat San Diego 62-58 in Flagstaff in the Big Sky's only other game tonight.

Griz are lookin' like they could be pretty good come tourney time.

Griz? Well, we'll see. LMU is only a so-so team this year. We've got four teams up at the top with four and four, all of them with strengths and weaknesses. PSU is one of them, and coaches said pre-season that they'd come in fourth in conference. It's too early to say something about anything (though the bottom dwellers do look like bottom dwellers for sure). The next two weeks will tell something. Big Sky is presently 16th out of 32 conferences in rpi - mid-ranking for a mid-major conference. The much-touted California Catholic conference is our challenge this year, and thus far we've done pretty well against them. PSU is up against two of them next, Pepperdine and St. Mary's. Pepperdine we should beat, but I don't know about St. Mary's.

Pepperdine is, of course, not Catholic.

The Bears lose 80-79. The Sooners missed a free throw with 6 seconds left, but the Bears had the ball stolen trying to get up court for the game winner.

Eagles lose 91-34. I'd expect that if it was, say, their women's team playing UConn, but not a men's game against an unranked opponent.

Sac State comes back to beat Idaho State at home, 64-63.

Sac's only conference win last year was over ISU at home.

The Griz come back from a 10-point deficit to beat Fresno State at home, 59-56. Montana improves to 9-4 and should be 10-4 heading into the bulk of conference after they play NAIA Great Falls on Wednesday.

Fresno has a good amount of NBA-caliber talent, but they're still a bit raw and prone to taking ill-advised shots (though they made several of those tonight). This might be the only opponent all year to have a size advantage on the Griz.

Eastern Washington loses to Chicago State in the Las Vegas Classic, 62-53. The Cougars were 0-6 against DI coming in and had a non-DI loss. The Eagles have now lost 6 of their last 7 against DI teams and are just 2-8 against DI this season.

EWU topped last night's futility by losing to winless Jackson State, 72-67. If Kirk Earlywine wasn't on the hot seat before, he probably is now.

I've been to 3 out of the 4 UNC home games, including the great win, 72-57, over U of Denver last night. UNC to date is a very legit team. TCU on the road will be a huge test, but at a 165 RPI, and being 4-6 so far, UNC has a chance for a W. Oklahoma is now at a 111 RPI, is 8-4, and UNC only lost to them by 1 point at their place.

From CBSSports.com after Monday's games:

http://www.cbssports.com/collegebasketb ... rpi/index1

*Only games against D-I opponents are exhibited on team records - UNC is the only BSC team to play only D-I competition so far.

Rank-School--------------W-L------RPI-----SOS Rank--SOS

The end to the UM/ISU game was really unlucky for the Griz. Amorrow Morgan missed a running attempt and Demetrius Monroe had his put-back brutally rejected by Brian Qvale, but the swat went right into the hands of Austin Kilpatrick and he promptly nailed the long deuce at the buzzer for the win.

If there was ever a moment that exemplified how blocks are the most overrated stat in basketball…

Was ISU really 1-10 coming into that game? If so, there is NO excuse for the Griz to have ISU that close to even have that ending be a factor. :ohno: :ohno: :ohno:
