18-1 and rolling

Since the loss to Temple, Nova has run off 9 straight wins and should move up to #3 with Texas losing to UConn. Could we get 3 national championships in one calendar year? I don't think so, but nothing is impossible.

Well, if you truly are going to claim that football national championship when you clearly cheated by having that Matt Szczur guy on your team, then I feel sorry for you.

Could Nova be the first ever to win D-I football and basketball championships in the same year?

If you're counting the BCS Florida did it in 2006.

Florida won a Bowl game, not a championship that year, so no, they have not done that.

Well played sir.
We are already the only ones to win an NCAA Division 1 basketball and football championship period, so yes, we would.

Fuck the BCS.

Wow. How refreshing. A Villanover fan with an actual sense of humor. Unlike that wideright82 fuck.

If I EVER meet that SOB, I'll knock him into next week.

He's a kicker. Shouldn't be too hard to do.

The pregame events before the NC game are still very hazy to me. All I really coherently remember was wideright introducing himself and a couple of his friends to me haha. It's probably a pretty good thing that I was hammered during the first half of that game the way Villanova looked.

I'm sure they'll beat Pitt yet again and continue to ruin my year(s). Bastards

My dad scored tickets to the Pitt game at the Spectrum last year. I wish those assholes weren't going to tear it down. It has much better atmosphere than the Wachovia Center. Yeah, you really can't move in the concourse, but I've never heard the center as loud as the Spectrum was that night.

nova's better defensively since Redding came off of suspension, but that's still their Achille's heel come tournament time - even now they're only something like #64 in adjusted team defense and that's been one of the most ironclad predictors of who advances deep into the tournament come March. Syracuse is the team that really looks national title caliber coming out of the Big East - they have the great defense to match the great offense they have.
We'll know for real about nova after their tough road games coming up - at Georgetown, at West Virginia, at Pitt, and at 'Cuse. nova's not really done any tough Big East road games yet.

Villanova does have the third best adjusted O in the country though and they're still improving as a team. Pomeroy's rankings are fairly questionable as it is and like in baseball, all the metric obsessed players are beginning to become annoying. I think Villanova beats Syracuse at the Dome (Villanova plays them better up there than they do at the Wachovia Center) and most likely loses to either Pitt at Peterson or GTown at The Verizon Center. If The 'Nova front court can improve before the Syracuse game (a long way off) they will be able to effectively counter the press with their multiple weapons with range.

Like I said, defense is nova's Achille's Heel. They can play offense better than anyone in the country (even Kansas), but they give up more open and easy looks than I've seen any other elite team do. 103 to Georgetown? I know G-town is streaky like that, but that's just crazy. nova makes a good look of it with the aggressiveness in terms of attacking the ball handler, but I think that just makes the overall D a little worse once they run into a team that can handle the rock. I still think nova should be a very, very heavy favorite to make the Final Four, but they are much more exposed than other teams to running into a roadblock somewhere in the tourney if they come up against a team that can slow them down a little (that's all you'll be able to do) and then can take advantage of all the open looks they'll get.
On the bright side, it'll be a good March for Big 5 teams in the tourney - I still think Temple will make some noise - not sure if they'll join nova in the Sweet 16, but there's a chance if the brackets break nicely for them.

After losing badly to Richmond -- RICHMOND!! -- that "noise" sounds like OWWW!

I wasn't expecting to win that game.. The circumstances were just too bizarre. It felt way too much like 2005 when Villanova beat Kansas. I think the defense will ultimately sort itself out when Jay streamlines the bench like he usually does toward the end of the season. They're capable of playing better defense than they did that game and that was by far the worst game they've played this season.
