First Time since 1977 - only one ACC team ranked
For the first time in 33 years, there is only one team from the Atlantic Coast Conference in The Associated Press Top 25.
Fifth-ranked Duke was the lone ACC team in the college basketball poll Monday, something that last happened on Dec. 13, 1977, when North Carolina was No. 5 in what was then the Top 20.
Seven other schools from the 12-team league have been ranked at some point this season: North Carolina, Georgia Tech, Clemson, Maryland, Florida State, Miami and Wake Forest.
Kansas (26-1), one of five teams from the Big 12 in the rankings, is again the runaway No. 1, receiving 61 first-place votes from the 65-member national media panel Monday. The Jayhawks were on top for the fourth straight week and 13th this season.

Yeah, quite a bit of whining going on down here. It's great to listen to the UNC, State, and Wake fans this year...it's a beautiful thing. UNC fans just realized they have a football team.

zero Pac 10 teams ranked. As of now, they are a one bid conference.

Maryland has been on a roll recently and if they keep it up they'll be ranked soon enough.
Re: First Time since 1977 - only one ACC team ranked
Easy now - don't lump us Wake fans in with the UNC/Dukie crowd.ASUMountaineer wrote:Yeah, quite a bit of whining going on down here. It's great to listen to the UNC, State, and Wake fans this year...it's a beautiful thing. UNC fans just realized they have a football team.
Re: First Time since 1977 - only one ACC team ranked
Cal and Arizona State both have decent enough resumes that they would have to be at least considered for an at large bid (though ASU pretty much would have to win out + take a game or 2 in the conference tourney). But yeah, the Pac-10 has been pathetic this year, Exhibit A for what can happen when everyone goes pro early.DJH wrote:zero Pac 10 teams ranked. As of now, they are a one bid conference.

Very interesting. Maryland could be a scary team to face next month though.

Re: First Time since 1977 - only one ACC team ranked
The real douches here are Maryland and Pitt fans. Turtle fans to this day blame UOP for their failure to make the Tournament a few years back. (UOP got an at-large coming out of the Big West, one of the rare times for that to happen.) And we had a Tiger fan in the last couple of years walking through an airport who passed a Pitt fan who gave him the bird YEARS after UOP dumped Pitt from the Tournament.
Still can't figure out why UOP has so much success against the Big East (eliminating Pitt and Providence and only bad calls allowed BC to advance).

Yeah, most of my wife's extended family went to Maryland...they could care less who UOP is. If it's not ACC, they don't tend to care. Because most Duke fans hate Maryland (and my in-laws) I follow UM basketball and football (though, not much to follow with MD pigskinbandl wrote:Seeing as how I am in the MD area and I am a Maryland men's basketball fan (even though I don't like the school or the state....I honestly can't explain thatSuperHornet wrote:The real douches here are Maryland and Pitt fans. ), I can tell you that most Terp fans couldn't care less about UOP or their tourney bid. There might be a few Terp fans in your bubble world that care, but that would be about it. This is honestly the first time I have even heard UOP mentioned in the same sentence as MD since about 2007.
If Terp fans blame anything on anybody, it's generally always steered towards Duke, UNC or UVA.

That's surprising. You wouldn't believe all the Turtle fans that flooded the UOP board whining about it. Which floored us given that a better ACC performance would have earned the berth for MD no matter what UOP did.ASUMountaineer wrote:bandl wrote: Seeing as how I am in the MD area and I am a Maryland men's basketball fan (even though I don't like the school or the state....I honestly can't explain that![]()

That surprising to me as well, I didn't know UOP has a board. I've never once heard my wife's family mention UOP or not making the tournament that year. However, I do hear them bash Duke, UNC, et al. constantly. Perhaps the ones that flooded the UOP board were a few Maryland fans, not representative of all Maryland fans.SuperHornet wrote:That's surprising. That's very likely true, ASU. I've never known ANY school to be completely composed of @-hole fans. It's usually just a few.ASUMountaineer wrote:That surprising to me as well, I didn't know UOP has a board. I've never once heard my wife's family mention UOP or not making the tournament that year.
