What's Up With Nova?

They started the season 22-2 and have now lost five of their last seven games.

I don't follow college hoops, but I can usually put aside my feelings toward the Nova football team and pull for the Nova men's hoops squad in the tournament, along with Temple and any other Philly schools that make it.

Do they have injury problems or did they simply put it on cruise control until the tourney? Can they turn it back on?

They have some weaknesses, they don't play great defense. They sub a lot of guys so feel they can be more aggressive and commit a lot of fouls. Their inside game is nothing special, as is most college teams, but when they play a team that goes down low, like Cuse did, it really shows.

They should have played a softer schedule.

I'm rooting for Nova, because I assume they'd be the first team to win both the NCAA Division I basketball and football champs in the same year...and I'm curious to see if the national media would even pick up on that.

Florida did it (if you buy into that whole BCS crap....).

I filled out one of my office brackets this morning, and I have 'Nova going pretty deep. Then again, I suck every year, so what do I know.

Yeah Florida did it, and they not only won both, but they beat my fucking Buckeyes IN BOTH GAMES!

Wow, so this really isn't your father's AGS is it?

Yeah, I'm talking about the NCAA Division I champ..not the BCS.

2/15 CONN L 84-75
2/21 @ PITT L 70-65
2/24 USF W 74-49
2/27 @ SYR L 95-77
3/02 @ CIN W 77-73
3/06 WVU L 68-66 OT
3/11 vs. MARQ L 80-76

Lost at a 3 seed, a 1 seed, at home vs a 2 seed, and in NY to a 6 seed, and UConn. That's a tough stretch for any team. Jay Wright knows how to win in March and if any Big East team has a decent run it will be Nova.

Georgetown and Pitt on the other hand.... don't expect a lot

nova got a huge break getting paired up in Duke's bracket - by far the easiest bracket and likely the easiest #1 seed. Richmond won't be a push over, and Baylor in Texas in the Sweet 16 will basically be a road game, but considering where the other #2 seeds got placed it's a pretty nice place to be. I agree that nova should've been a #2 - can't really make an argument for any of the #3 seeds to be ahead of them.

Temple got a worse seed than expected, but really no difference between a #4 and #5 seed, other than who gets to wear the home uniforms in the 2nd round.

Yup. Siena is too good for a 13 too. Both should have been 10s.

I'm not sold on Siena. I think they're living off the rep last year's team built up. Been some real head scratching losses this year (Niagra, blown out by Butler). I think they beat a Purdue team that is a hollow shell of itself right now, but that may be it for them.

Yeah, but if you polled college sports fans up here in the Philly area right in Nova's backyard who the Div I football champ was, same as the rest of the country, 99+% would say Alabama.

That will never change. For us in the FCS world, its fruitless to try to fight that.
