Dumb@$$ Griz player

The Lobos are NOT happy that AJ is implying that UNM is not as tough as a Big East school.

I'm pretty sure AJ meant "big" in terms of size, not necessarily ability. And New Mexico isn't big; Qvale & Selvig are both 2-3" taller than anyone on the Lobo roster. Not that it matters anyway, since I don't think "bulletin board material" will have any real say in who wins.

And this just gets exposed as an issue now? Johnson said this way back at the selection show party.

I agree with you, Venus. The problem is that regardless of AJ's intent, NEW MEXICO could use it for motivation. (Though if they require such for motivation, one could question their readiness for the big time.)

AJ's handlers (coaches, etc.) should have seen this brewing in him and counseled against it. It COULD cause UM to lose. Of course, they still have to play the game, and you may be right about it not having any impact.

For sake of my bracket, I hope the Griz win anyway. ;-)

I wouldn't counsel AJ not to say anything. During the BSC Tournament, he said that it was UM's "destiny" to win the thing & go to the NCAAs. That was really more insulting to opponents than what he said here, yet he still led the Griz to a 22-point comeback win in the title game.

Your calling him a dumbass now? You were slobbering over his performance last week. People say things, shit happens, life goes on.

Good performance doesn't prevent one from being a dumb@$$. Namath was a dumb@$$, but he backed it up. I'd love to see AJ back it up, but he still shouldn't have done it.

People want opinions and then when an athlete puts one out there they want to dissect it and feel superior in telling them what they should or should not be saying/thinking. That way they can say what they think others should act like even if what they are commenting on is not what the athlete's intention was.

People that make these kinds of comments about others should be thrown in jail for it.

I never asked AJ for his opinion. At his level, he shouldn't be talking to the media anyway. If he's going to be required to do so by money-grubbing NCAA idiots, his hanlders should prep him for it. Ultimately, as bad as he looks for this, the responsibility goes back to the coaches due to his young age. Dumb, but it should have been foreseen.

No shit you didn't ask him. You weren't the reporter but SOMEONE did ask him and now it's out there for you to think that it's some sort of big deal. THAT is why they do it.

You should be put in jail for your racism and wanting people (coach/handlers) to shut the black man up.

He didn't say jack shit that could be considered disrespectful if it is taken as Mvem said it was meant.

Racism when I don't want ANY player talking to the media? I don't even like media week at the Super Bowl, and they're professionals.

Some of my best friends are minorities whom I would trust with my life. Quit trying to make up an issue that doesn't exist.
