I, for one, am happy and, as you can see, 2005 is ancient history. I couldn't be happier. After UT lost to Nebraska today (in baseball) I didn't think I'd be happier but this just made my week.
Keep it up guys. Even the CBS announcers are dumbfounded
On the one hand, UNI and KU have the same amount of basketball scholarships (though VASTLY different budgets).
On the other hand:
- ASU/Mich was an early season game, while this is in the postseason
- Kansas was a proven #1 in the country, Michigan was an overrated #5
Good point, CatMom. The Panther victory is on a higher plane, for one, because unlike this year's Kansas team, the paper Wolverines were not the real deal.
Proud Prince of Purple Pomposity YT is not a communist. He's just a ...young pup.
Congrats, UNI! I'm very happy that Tennessee's path to the Final Four looks a hell of a lot easier.
And, as far as the comparisons to App-Michigan. Who gives a shit? Let UNI have their moment... Though, I do think it's awesome that whenever there's an upset in any sport there will always be mention of my alma mater in the aftermath.

But both are HUGE wins.
Agree & UNI's win has more ramifications. But, they are hard to compare. As an App homer, I'll just offer that our win was at Michigan & I personally think it is harder to pull off a football upset vs basketball upset (difference can be one hot player in BB ala Arcineaux vs Carolina), but football is more a team sport. But I digress...
I am thoroughly stoked for UNI & their fans & am happy for them to enjoy this moment...let's hope this is sign of another good showing next weekend....Congrats!

From the basketball people I've read tonight, this is top 5 all time in basketball history...I knew UNI could do it, but no one outside of Cedar Falls did, so it is a HUGE upset.
Oh, and to the rest of your nation, say hello to the face of Cinderella

The number one reason I said we could beat Kansas, and I got semi-roasted for it here. UNI runs so many different sets and Kansas won't be able to react and read them well enough.
We run such a fundamental style that teams aren't used to it and struggle with us.
Congratulations to Northern Iowa. I really enjoyed that. And in a way I hate that a comparison to the Appalachian State win over Michigan was brought up. But since it was:
Appalachian State's win over Michgian was more of a phenomenon. That was the only win...EVER...by a I-AA/FCS team over a I-A/FBS ranked in the top 25. It was only the second win ever by a I-AA/FCS team over a I-A/FBS that finished with a winning record. That Michigan team had enough talent to beat Florida by a lot worse than the final score indicated.
There are no subdivisions to Division I basketall. Northern Iowa went into that game as a 29-4 Division I basketball team with a 3-0 record against teams that were from leagues that in football are known as the BCS leauges. They were a 9 seed. It was a big upset. But I'd bet it's not the first time a #1 has been knocked off by a #9 or lower seed. Remember, in basketball, a #8 seed once won the national championship. And when you're talking about a #8 regional seed, you're talking about a team that's seeded in the 29-32 range overall. I seriously doubt that someone who would want to look into it would have difficulty of finding examples of #9 or lower regional seeds making the final 16.
It was not as much of an "unusual" event as App State beating Michigan in football was. App State beating a top 25 FBS team in football is, at this point, totally unique. The only time it's been done.

Second, FUCK!!! Does anyone want to hear about this win during football season when UNI loses a game and people are ragging on UNI and then their fans will bring up this and try and throw this in the rest of our faces???? Hope I am wrong...but....

Even the guys on CBS were pretty impressed and were trying to figure out where this ranked.
I only answered because it was asked, but didn't go into a whole fucking explanation.
As was said... LET UNI HAVE THEIR MOMENT....
